Want to start getting into BMX.

Hey guys, I've been searching all over the place for some help in choosing my first BMX bike, but that's when I was pointed to this site.

Now I'm mainly going to be learning some tricks, maybe some dirt riding, and definetely going around town with it, so it's gotta be able to withstand my abuse (not purposeful though).

I live in Canada, and I'm only 14, so I'm probably not going to be able to order online, unless it's from a trusted site, and/or will ship to me. So basically bikes from retailers around me, or online (to some extent) would be great.

Now, I'm roughly 6', and I weigh 140 lbs. so that should get you started.

My budget is around $400 Canadian, so that's about $350 US, but less would be great, if not that's fine.

I'm in the same situation as you. I've heard good things about all Haro bikes, especially the F4, and Diamondback bikes, esp. the Joker and Grind. The Grind is a good beginner bike, not too expensive, good for what you pay for. Looks sexy, too

k the diamondback grind and viper/ viper x are junior bikes. they have a small top tube making the bike extremly short. go on the diamondback web site and it will tell you that those models are suited to younger smaller riders (ages 5-9) says so on the site. Definetly check out the dk completes and the haro completes are not bad but try to avoid the lower models. try to pick out sumthing like the f 3 or 4, comes with 3 pc cranks and if you can afford it its a good idea, most of the dk completes come with 3 pc cranks also. Alot of the people on here bash GT bikes but i think they have a few nice completes, and they are definetly worth checking out i think, but thats just me, other people will tell you diferently but i think they have a some nice bikes, my Girl Friend has a GT Thumper with a few extras and aside from it being fairly heaving i think it is a nice bike, but there ya go, just a little advice take it if u want but keep in mind about thos diamondback grind and vipers, 2 small for you. check out some of their other modles tho the definetly have some nice biikes

Amazing. A noob that started a thread that makes sense. I think the only reason BMXTRIX and Beerman haven't responded is that they're sick of answering the same questions every week. Get a full chromoly frame and a 3 piece crank, along with a decent wheelset. Any bike that has those should be ok.

anyways...ill check out those other ones you told me about......oh and what about mongoose's?

edit- just checked out the DK's and the Haro's...and the one i like best that's in my price range is the Haro F3.....ill check out more about it.....but i really dont want to spend over 400 canadian......cuz i gota save for stuff.....so the f3 looks like a good one....unless u can suggest something else......

A Mongoose from a bikeshop is ok, one from a toy store or department store is not. Just rememeber, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Danscomp.com appears to be the place to order from, but if they won't ship to you, or the shipping is too much, stay local. What brands do your local shops carry? I've got a Haro and Felt, and even though they're both good, I think they Felt is a better bike. But mine are race bikes.

I don't know offhand. Doesn't matter if you're paying by credit card, just do the conversion yourself so you know what the actual cost will be. I gotta get some sleep, but I'm sure someone else will log on soon and help you out. In the meantime you can go to the website and see what the currency/payment options are.

Danscomp sells Haro. They just dont sell completes becuase Haro has some sketchy deal with companies that they wont let a shop or mailorder have more that a certain ammount of one complete bike...and so if Danscomp sold all their Haro's, they wouldnt have anymore...basiclly Haro doesnt like having 300,000 bikes at some random shop and they dont get sold so they only allow a certain ammoun (like 30) to be in stock at one time becuase they supposedly sell out faster (this is what i was told by the shop where i bought both my old Haro and my new one)...but Dans does carry Permium (made by Haro) and some other Haro Parts like the SlimBars and barends and wheels...

alright......i found this one place near Niagra Falls (less than an hour from me) that sells BMX and other bikes, and does other repairs and stuff.

They have some GT's, Haro's, and that's it for BMX.

But they have about 20 haro BMX models, and I'm looking at either getting the F3 (or F3 MAG which looks awesome with those rims) or the F4.

Now the price difference is about $90. But there are also other models they have.

The website is https://www.cycleman.com/bikes.htm

and the prices they gave me over email were as follows:

All Prices are in Canadian funds. I would recomend the X-series if your looking to do dirt.

HARO BIKES BMX

NYQUIST SERIES
Discription Retail
NYQUIST R-16 $ 415.00
NYQUIST R1 $ 530.00
NYQUIST R2 $ 575.00
NYQUIST R24 $ 575.00
NYQUIST PRO $ 1,120.00

MIRRA SERIES
Discription Retail
MIRRA 360 $ 370.00
MIRRA 540 $ 495.00
MIRRA FLAIR $ 660.00
MIRRA PRO $ 1,095.00

FREESTYLE SERIES
Discription Retail
F2c $ 300.00
F2 1 PIECE $ 290.00
F2 3 PIECE $ 315.00
F3 $ 335.00
F4 $ 420.00
SPORT $ 490.00

All prices are in Canadian funds.

FLATELAND SERIES
Discription Retail
MASTER M5 $ 485.00
MASTER M7 $ 1,010.00

BACKTRAIL SERIES
Discription Retail
X0 $ 290.00
X1 1 PIECE $ 320.00
X1 3 PIECE $ 350.00
X2 $ 375.00
X3 $ 430.00
X24 $ 425.00

GROUP SERIES RACING
Discription Retail
CSX MINI $ 405.00
SX MINI $ 515.00
SX JUNIOR $ 515.00
SX EXPERT $ 515.00
SX COMP $ 625.00
SX COMP XL $ 625.00
SX CRUISER $ 650.00
SX PRO XL $ 1,045.00

Now my budget is MAX $400-$450. Now im planning on doing some tricks, riding around town and stuff, now I said I'd be doing dirt riding too, but I most likely wont be, maybe the odd one here and there, but nothing overly extensive.

OK buddy, I live in Canada, calm down!

yes I know there are probably tons of bike shops where you live and in other places, but not near me, I live about an hour from Toronto and there is not one.

And i havent been smoking anything, I just said that all my friends that have BMX bikes have walmart BMX bikes, not anybody else on here.

You just gotta chill and read what people say, not just speak before even looking. Aite?
