3/8'' to 14mm
 

I am fixing up an old street bike and it has 3/8'' axles. I am getting a new fork and I thought about upgrading to 14mm. Is it possible to change just the axle from a 3/8'' to 14mm or do I need to change the hub too. I just wanted to see how much trouble it is to change to 14mm. I am not even sure if my rear drop outs will fit a 14mm axle. I will be riding a new street park in my town and it has a lot of hand rails, so I want the strongest bike I can have. 3/8'' might be enough but I just wanted to check. Thanks for the help guys.

why are you trying to sell axle converters. are you like sometype of internet hustla

would I need to do the front and the back. Are my rear drop-outs big enough to support 14mm?

Exactly, thanks queensrider86. That is what I was trying to find out. My 3/8'' fit in ther just fine so I was just trying to figure out if it is posible to convert to 14mm or when you buy the bike frame it already comes with 14mm dropouts. I am going to by a S&M Pitchfork and I just thought since I was doing that I could convert it all to 14mm, but if my rear drop-outs won't fit 14mm axles in there than I guess Icant do it.

Just get 3/8" axles. There's absolutely no reason to get 14mm unless you spend half your day doing smiths and toothpicks.

Thanks beerman, that is the advice I was looking for. See here is my situation. I use to ride pretty hard about 10 years ago. I am 27 now and my city just finished up a $250,000.00 all cement skate park. With a 20' full pipe, monster bowl, pyrmids and rails everywhere. I am so pumped to get out there. I used to slide rails with my 3/8'' and I never actually bent and axle. I have been hitting the weights pretty hard so I have put on a few pounds in the past ten years. I will not be sliding a ton of rails, but I sure will try to hit the some of them though. Why am I even worring about it anyways, if I bend the axles then I will cross that bridge when I get there. If I bend them I will get bigger ones, but I am sure that the 3/8'' will be fine. Thanks for the help.

From their website it looks like they are pretty busy building park all across the nation. I hung out with some of the builders at the local pub and they told me that they are building quite a few of them at one time, even in a neighboring city about three hours away. I read in the local paper that the bill for this park was about $250,000.00 so it sounds like they are doing well.

Well its east you convert to 14mm, a dremel and a steady hand.

Hello uneven dropouts. Not a good idea. Better idea: use what your bike is built for or buy a frame that's built for what you want.
