You have to unscrew it a little bit, then hit it with a hammer, because that bolt is connected to a wedge in the fork, and the wedge is usually pretty jammed. Just unscrew it enough so that the screw can have some space to go down, don't unscrew it all the way.

no, hit the bolt down. on top of the stem, hit the bolt with a hammer when it is loose.

see the wedge on the bottom, that is what is in the fork, you have to hit the bolt that holds it to knock it loose.

What the hell kind of bikes are you people riding? BMX companies haven't made threaded forks for over a decade.

or

https://www.parktool.com/repair_help/..._headset.shtml

depending on what kind of headset you have. Only the cheapest of the cheap up until about 3 or 4 years ago have threaded headsets. 10-15 years ago it was standard equipment.

If your bike has a front brake cable routed through the fork you'll have to remove the front brake cable to actually remove your stem. If your bike isn't already a wreck, messing with the headset is a great way to turn it into one. It's rare enough that BMXers have even heard of grease, let alone the proper tools.

You need punctuation, before anything else.
