best and lightest headset
what is the best and lightest headset ?
|
theres another thread about it, but since your gonna be a lazy a$$ get the solid its the lightest and probably one of the best
|
I've only heard good things about the DK MPH. It only costs like 35$ and it comes in like a thousand colors.
|
I've only heard bad things about it, like the fact that it's a Chris King knockoff that breaks easily.
|
chris king is by far the best headset money can buy and is backed with an awesome warranty. they come in aluminum steel and titanium. a kind headset will probably outlast your next 3 frames.

Just because it's the most expensive doesn't mean that it sucks (albeit less than the DK MPH sucks), even with the 10-year warranty. |

hes trying to say why spend so much when you can save 50 bux and buy a perfectly good solid for fsa pig sealed
|
Why stop with Chris King? If you got a hiddenset frame you can waste even more money on Campy Record. The fact is, if it doesn't break, 99% of BMXers can't tell the difference. Worry about splitting hairs over parts that actually matter. Stong and cheap is all you need.

but its not the lightest (5.5 oz)considering its made from 4130 and the locking compression wedge thingiemagigger is aluminium (the lock thing). King headsets are just a name....your buying a name...i would NEVER pay that kind of money for a freaking headset. |
chris king is a f'n prick anyway. screw him.
i still have my solid headset from the first run- as well as a handful of my friends too. no point in worrying about weight in a headset, that's just silly. |

FSA Pig Pro is cheap and strong. Couldn't go wrong using one.

Just scored a PIG on ebay for $12.50. Better go buy a new frame to build up now. And some silver CF spacers...

I still refuse to buy plastic bike parts. I think it's Cane Creek that has headset spacers with little pins so they interlock. Don't you hate it when your spacers are spinning loosely on your steerer? Glad they fixed that.

I guess we'll find out...I just ordered a new LeMond road bike, the frame is a combination OX Platinum steel spine / OCLV 120 carbon cockpit. :D :D :D |
I'll stick with titanium and steel. Of course, I can't ride the skinny tires anymore, so it doesn't really matter.

My last road bike had a carbon fork, and it was fairly light. But I'll look for an old steel Basso or Ciocc like I used to ride. The new frames are just too stiff and uncomfortable for me. And I'd feel silly riding a sub 20lb bike again, when I weigh close to 200. I'm built like a Russian strongman, so I look funny on graceful bikes.
