    Need help with upgrading Brakes

Im new to BMX so dont laugh when i say i have a NEXT chaos. I like it alot and i want to upgrade the crappy brakes that are on it to U-brakes. The brakes on it now bolt on where the fork splits, but the only U-brakes i can find bolt on either side. do they make brakes and/or parts that allow me to bolt it on there. Thanks for the help, Tommy

You'll need a U-Brake plate, but I wouldn't even bother. Just save up for a better bike.

Well, it'll be a wasted effort. A Next is the next worst thing to a Huffy.

ok i know im hardheaded, i know you guys dont like next. I didnt feel the need in spending alot of $$$ while im just a beginner. I like the bike, cuz it suits me fine. I just need brakes so i can learn tricks
involving an endo. I dont want to hear other ways of doing an endo. I ust want U-brakes for my bike. thats it. i dont want lectures. Im not saying that like im mad i just want info on where i can get what i want. i was kind of hoping that i could get help here. Id rather not be harassed about my bike. Ill just find a forum willing to help me.

Good luck with that. And I already told you what to do: install a U-brake plate. Not that it'll help much, because you'll have to braze it on to keep it from flexing. And that, plus the brakes, plus the new cable, will set you back fifty bucks. Whereas you could simply ask mom and dad for $200 and explain to them that you'd rather not die riding a bike made from arc-welded Chinese gaspipe.

Go to your bike shop and ask them for some Kool Stop salmon pads. And be really nice, and let them know you'll be shopping for a bike as soon as you can afford a better one. Understand that even new, softer pads may not make much of a difference. The brake itself is rather cheap and ineffective. It's not that we want to pick on your bike, but to spend $50-80 to upgrade the brakes on an $89 bike is silly, when you can get a much better beginner's bike for about $200. You're throwing good money after bad.
