which rim is stronger? im close to 200lbs and i ride alot of street and trails with park everyother weekend.....i was thinkin either a odyssey hazard cassette laced to a primo hula hoop, a hazard lite, or a odyssey midway, with 12g spokes....i want this thing to stay in true for more than 3 days unlike my bfr's :( which im tired of! so which rim is stronger? your help is greatly appreciated because i hate  my current rims and im gonna get rid of them as soon as i get my new rims/rear wheel..thanks

12g is over kill. do 14.

queensrider86 02-22-06 07:40 PM

to run 12 gauge spokes, you have to modify the hub, hulahoops are good, but the chrome peels. hazard lites are not strong.midways are fine.just try to get good spokes(not primo)and you'll be fine. i recently found out that those spokes that come with alex triple wall wheels are awesome.

DT spokes = amazing and a lil $$ more...

Odyssesy Midway over the Hulahoop, because if everyone is right about the chrome peeling, then the Odyssey rims are of the same strenghtish and the chrome wont chip...

Pain4Pleasure 02-23-06 03:47 PM

ok thanks, so midways are good..... what about there 7ak, that might be weaker tho because of there weight but yah thanks for the tip on the spokes*

KinetikBiker 02-24-06 07:27 PM

Strong = midway
Lighter and a lil' weaker and more $$ = 7KA
Lighter and lil' weaker and less $$ = Hazard LT (my weapons of choooiceeee)

premiumbmx2005 02-24-06 08:16 PM

bah, the chrome on my hula hoops is almost all peeled off on the right side...oh well

KinetikBiker 02-24-06 11:21 PM

my Odyssey back rim's chrome is like gone in spots of my rim...i guess it like chipped or something, i noticed after looking for the first time becuse beerman was talking about chrom chipping, and so i look while walking home from the trails...and...theres like lots of little "no chrome" spots....haha

Oh well ill be gettin my new wheel with my new frame...

yay.

premiumbmx2005 02-25-06 09:34 AM

youve been talking bout a new frame for foreverrrrr, when are you gettin it?

Haha, thats what everone says, and frankly, its true...

Im not quite sure...right now im waiting and saving up enough cash so that when i get it i can get my back wheel and new smaler chainwheel...all in one
But as of now i only have enough for the Frame, headset and mid bb...

premiumbmx2005 02-25-06 09:43 AM

what i did was make my haro all nasty parts and then save up for a new frame(premium). luckily though i got a biiig helping hand from my uncle...around 200 dollors, leaving me with a lot more money...lol

So I searched for some info on this topic, but didnt really find much. Sorry for diging up this thread but I figured I shouldn't start a new one for such an easyly ansered question. So I am planing on buying a whole new wheelset soon (ody hazard front hub, and ody hazzard cassette) laced to either primo hula hoops, or hoffman generator rims. I've narrowed it down to these two becuase they fit my budget best and I don't want alex triple walls because of the weight. I've been told that both are very sold rims as long as you take care of them, but I've heard stories about the hula hoops and that the chrome on them is bad and it peels quickly. I don't know anyone personaly that runs a chrome hula hoop so I wouldn't really know, but I know someone who runs a chrome generator and he seems to like it alot. He's been running it for a few years and the chrome hasent peeled at all, the only damage is a few case dents. So with that said and the fact that the generator rims are $10.00 cheaper what is your opinion on this decision?

Save up and get Hazard Lites.

Listen to this man. I did it and im damn happy i did. I weigh 180 and rarely have to tune them.

I'm heavier than you and I run Big City 48's front and back and they've been graeat. The only things stronger are those triple wall Alex abominations.

eightdip 04-10-06 04:20 AM

nice one dooley, sun big city's all the way, ive got them and love them to bits!!!
but then again, i am 130 lbs so they wont buckle any time soon!
