You may think this is a bunch of stupid 20-somethings but the cash prize was enough to make them almost kill themselves to get the prize money

But i'll tell you Red Bull says they're "Fueling this sport into the mainstream" but what they really want is PROFIT

Red Bull doesn't care about the riders or how they get hurt

this may seem that the riders are just stupid but they never got hurt like this when just regular riding with no prize money and just riding for fun

some of their crashes got them just broken legs, but in this sport you can get an array of different injuries from many different crash possibilities

I know this isn't BMX related but this sport has similar underground roots with bmx since some of these riders ride bmx in the summer

its a long read but before a long saturday session at the park, drink a can of monster or full throttle instead of red bull

the microscopic can is reason enough to boycott red bull

Most likely, people signed disclaimers before they participated. In fact, I'm positive they did- no company would ever hold anything like this without covering their butts.

Also, when these adults (because they are over 18) participate in a sport where they know they can become injured, then they should accept the consequences should they become injured. It's cold, but that's how these competitions work.

Having said that, I would think Red Bull would have the courtesy to help out those with severe injuries. But then again, those with severe injuries should have some kind of insurance before participating in such events.

Why is it that kids these days participate in risky behavior without thinking of the consequences and making plans for the future?

But everyone should boycott the "Mills" malls chains (Potamca Mills is the one by me), they are the malls that most of the Vans Skateparks were in and they didnt renew the lease, thats why some of the Vans parks had to close (like the one in Woodbridge, VA)

I encourage everyone to do a little reasearch about Red Bull - its country of origin, what countries allow it to be sold but most importantly how it treats comeptitors in all extreme sports. It pursues extreme sports as a marketing image and uses the competitors freely as promotion for its product. Can you imagine how much it would cost to shoot a commercial for Red Bull, adhering to industry standards, taking out proper insurance and paying union scale wages and the support crew that goes a long with it.
I guarentee it is way more expensive to shoot as a commercial - riders would not be as extreme in their stunts because it would not be competitive. Yet , now Red Bull owns all that footage and they can use it freely to promote their product. Its called brand imaging and we all buy into it but lets at least buy it from an American Corporation.


Do your own reasearch - I think you will find this problem in the kite surfing blogs , the paragliders, moto -X etc. I did.


No other energy Drinks hold competitions like this, Monster wants surfers to set world records in big wave surfing, thats about it

You seem to have forgotten that they also have a several teams of paid riders. And they aren't the only energy drink to use "extreme" sports for promotion; Kronik energy drink, for example, sponsors about a dozen riders.

And, by the way, Mountain Dew, ESPN, and LG also use competitors for promotion of their products.

they're not paid riders

they're just competing in a competition

but the way monster athletes and red bull athletes are treated and exposed, theres quite a difference

and i haven't seen any other sport drink hold a competition on its own, i've only seen energy drinks become PARTS of competition like the X games, Red Bull is the only energy drink i've seen to hold its own exclusive competition and i see its only intended purpose is to get all the northerners to buy their drinks

Red Bull has a brilliant business model, and is one of the few truly well-run beverage companies. They sponsor contests, but they don't put a gun to anyone's head and threaten them. Maybe we should outlaw people that don't know their own limits.

Let's boycott stupidity instead.

So there you have it. If you boycott Red Bull and buy Monster instead, you'll be taking valuable prize money away from a heavy promoter of cycling events, and put it into the hands of greedy shareholders.
