Sub-$300 BMX for adult/heavier rider

Been reading the BMX forum for the last few days. I been searching for threads mostly for the recommendations for bigger/heavier riders. But it seems most of the recommendations for bigger/heavier riders were in the $500-600 range.

I'm 5'10", 180lbs, and would like a BMX-style bike to ride with my kids--at the park, doing jumps, and occasional tricks. But, I'd like to keep my investment below $300.00.

I think I've read enough to realize I don't want a cruiser-frame (i.e. DK General Lee 24"), so I'll be staying away from those.

I think I've read enough to realize I should be shopping for a BMX bike with a 20.5-20.75" top-tube.

What size rims/tires would come "standard". And, are there other larger options?

Thanks in advance!

The only thing that would be good for you is around $300, a little bit more, like $310 on dans... that would be the DK six pack.

The little thing below your name says it all.

Thanks, GoS.

Guess, I'll have to pony up a bit more than I thought. I'm ok with that.

While we're at it, what other make/model would be comparable to the DK Six Pack at the $300-level? Are there any GT or Mongoose models (cause my local Performance Bike stocks them) close?

GT: No.
Mongoose: No.
If you want to spend a little bit more, you could get a Fit Pro for $340, but it's not full cro-mo like the six pack... and with your size and weight, you want full cro-mo.

I just recently bought a Haro F2 for 219. It only has a 20.25 tube but I don't feel cramped and I'm 5'10" 185lbs. I figured it was a good bike to start out cheaply. I'm just replacing parts as I get the cash. I'm about to buy nicer pedals and a taller handlebar probably this week. I'm more of an expert on skateboarding but it seems like I'm taking a good route towards owning a nice bmx. Hope my reply helps. Later

It's really just preference how long your toptube is. I'm 5'5" 125 with a 20.5" toptube. Just sit on some bikes at your local shop to see which one you like best, and then order a better bike off of danscomp or albes with the same size toptube. Although I still highly recommend (sp) the six pack...
