how to get rid of gyro?

So how do i remove it, just take off the stem and go from there? And can I still run a U-brake on it?

yup, just take off the stem and go from there, you might need some spacers though, and you'll need a new cable.

Weight, looks, braking power, just because.

I dont run a gyro on my bike, just a long straight cable.

Gyros dont weigh all that much, but it's still a tiny bit.

And I can still triple barspin without a gyro.

you have to untwist them, just a convenience issue for me. Why not get a gyro or keep it on, to me it looks better and your puttin on hardly any weight on your bike.

What wethepeople said, braking power. Mines crap as it is, so Im trying to increase its stopping power.

BTW which kool-stop pads work the best?

The gyro takes up quite a bit of space under the stem - you could use spacers but I just cut the headtube down, it takes some work but I think it's worth it for the cleaner looks and it seems to make the bike feel better too.

Cutting the head tube?? Are you an idiot? You cut the steerer tube on your forks not the head tube on the frame.

Some people would rather just go the easier and cheeper route of going straight cable.

yeh and i hate how its soo much trouble if something on gyro goes wrong whereas it is alot easier on straight cables and also through gyro, braking power is lost unless you are some sort of master at tuning it!

Master? Mr. Streaks, it's as easy as potty training.

Heres what I do. When my shoes are worn out from riding brakless, I put tape of the holes and they become work shoes and winter shoes. During the winter I buy a new pair of shoes for riding and wait till about late may before i satrt wearing them. This way threre 100% trashed by the end of summer.

My Arto's hold up really well despite my brakelessness, I've had them for 3 months and the soles have hardly any rubber missing. But I try not to stick my foot in the tire when I don't have to, rolling to a slow enough speed to turn around or just step onto the ground works for me most of the time.

I do quite a bit of footjams, though.
