Hang fives are hard to learn.

And they hurt when you fall, especially when you learn them without gloves. .

But after about an hour and a half of practicing I can go about 15-20 feet before falling.

That's pretty good. I still can't go more than like three inches.

I'm better at nosemanuals than hang-fives.

After a few hours of practicing I could go a foot, maybe two. I gave up.

Mind you the 15 or so feet is sketchy, fast and uncontrolled and only once looked good.

The thing with learning hang fives is that you have to commit to it. You have to really get your weight over that front peg.

It helps if you practice ejecting out of them too, so if you go over the bars you don't fall right on your hands. Basically practice using your balancing foot (the one that hangs free) to step over the bars when you fall. Once you get good at it, you can practice hang fives all day long without hurting yourself.

damn right they are.

I know a guy here that spends more time on the front wheel than on both of them.

he can hop to hang five, and hop to nose manual anything a lot further than I can just hop to manual it.

nose manual - nose pivot 360 out
360 nosepick over coping spine bspin out
180-fakie nose manual-sort of nollie cab out

the guy is a badass.

I swear i made a thread about this because i too was fustrated that i couldn't get these. I've pretty much given up.

I did find it weird that i ride left foot forward, grind on the left but like to use the right side peg for hang fives. And i do footjams with my right foot. I'm wierd.

I do all of that the same except for the foot used for hang fives.
