My first, hmmm must have been 1990. (I was 8)
Ross amazon pirahna, neon orange with black paint spatters.
about 3-4 years later I got really into bikes and started buying parts for it. (Couldn't pursuade My Mum to shell out for a new bike)
Upgraded:
Cranks- Odyssey Excaliber 1pc.
sprocket- Odyssey CD
Pedals- Fusion Platform
Brakes- (rear) Odyssey Pitbulls with a gyro and pitbull lever. ( Front) Diacomp Bulldogs
SeatPost- Haro Micro Adjust
Seatpost clamp- Odyssey Pozi
Rims- White Skyway tuffs sprayed black
Pegs- Odyssey Grinders x4 (I never understood the name, theres no way you could grind with them)
Bars- Honestly forgot but they were junk
Stem- Fusion (Slipped like a teenager learning to drive a manual transmission)
Headset- Odyssey (I think)
Fork- Some minimal offset mongoose thing with the dropouts directly below the fork legs (I really liked those forks, and they went on my next two bikes)

Tricks- I could wheelie 5 pedals, Bunnyhops were cake and I could jump some nasty curbs. Sick right? What do you want; I think I was like 12 Years old. I'd never even seen people do tricks on a bike so I had no idea what I was up against.
Once I got a bit better I realized the Hi-Ten Ross frame wasnt going to last
After that I picked up a blue Haro Group 1 ZI that lasted a week until I split the headtube then I built up a pretty sweet yellow TNT Longfellow when I turned 16, it got stolen a year later and I diddnt get on a bike again until this past fall.

Right now I'm in the process of bulding up another Longfellow exsactly the same as the one that was nicked.

wow good story

This WILL be mine... hopefully

I was just getting into mountain biking.... but most all we did was dirtjump's. I had a 300 dollar bike and that may not have been the "best"set-up for what we did.... When parts broke I fixed them, when I fixed them I was BROKE. So then I found out there is such thing as off-road BMXing. I don't know what intereged me.... But something did. So I logged onto PINKBIKE.COM Then I found out that you look through until you find a deal or trade that suits you and BAAM, you pay for it or trade and you got yourself A bike for a VERY nice price.

I Live in frederictin And I found a guy in Moncton who has a 2006 Haro Backtrail X2 and he wants a mountain bike... PERFECT. After asking around, people said not tobuy it because it's not the "best". I am sure they are right but look at what im trading Its a 2006 ironhorse assault FR1. He said he may drive up to Fredericton to see it next week... IM pretty darn excited. People have told me over and over again. You can't learn to BMX at age 13. But im REALLY dedicated and willing to boast the bruises and scraps and prove all of them wrong.

Thats my story. Over the summer when my lawn mowing buisness get going, I'll buy upgrades golore. Intil I have my dream bike.... Anywyas, that's MY story... Hopefully

My story:

-Today i finished piling up dirt for my new lander, waiting for a good rain to clay it and pack it in.
-I saw a snake, it was black with yellow spot things. It scared me.
-Mude came down for a bit and we dug and rode.
-Mude and i went to his house for food.
-Got a call from 2 other friends of mine saying they had just gotten to the trails. So i rode down.
-Got there and did a few trains and then the wind picked up so we decided we would go to the skatepark in a few. My friend James decided that it was tailwhip time. First try got it sitting down, second try the same and thrid try straight to the pedals and through the rest of the section. So now he wants to do 3's. Meanwhile my other friend and i are watching because we aren't nearly that good and so we are sittling on our dirt spine to be watching him. I get my camera but it's out of batteries. He hits the 4th jump in the line and spins a smooth one but takes his foot off cause he was going to land kind of slow. So he goes back and tries again, this time he kind taped the top of the lander, not a bad case that slowed him down but just kinda whipy cause of the wind. So he goes for the 3 anyways but spins off axis and is going to land real low. He takes one foot off again to kinda get the balance and stop. He lands foot off first and his body spins, the foot doesn't. Now he's laying on the ground in pain so we walk over to check him out thinking he's ok. Then i see him try to lift his leg and the top half moves and the bottom half flops around and dangles like jello. I get super scared as he is sitting there screaming in anger i just broke my leg. So being smart i called 911. Those people are idiots and they ask too many questions. So finally after a good 5 minutes of talking to the 911 operator he says 'ok now i know you're telling the truth, i'll send out EMS' and i'm like...'yeah you're right becuase i'd lie about my friend's leg being completly broken'. So i sit with my friend James will my other friend Pawel goes to flag down the EMS people. They finally get there and walk back to the trails. They seemed pretty calm which made me feel better until i realized probly not much scares them. So they finally are done cutting his pants and pads off his legs and decid they need to put him in a brace and backboard thing. So the EMS people ask James how he's doing and he goes 'well i was having a great day till my leg snaped! but other then that i'm doing great!' i couldn't help but laugh. So as they put his leg in the brace he's in alot of pain because they have to move it so he's screaming like crazy. Finally they get all that crap on and get him into the ambulence. My buddy Pawel opted to take all of the bikes/stuff home and i'd go with James to the hospital. So cool, he's going to be ok and i get to ride in an ambulence! They make me sit shotgun and i was scared. There were soo many buttons and i didn't want to touch anything so i was like holding my knees and stuff. I directed the lady driver onto the highway and we were off...

About 15 minutes later we got to the hospital and went inside, no waiting! So they take a look at his leg, give him some Morphine and other pain meds and send him off to x-rays. Finally he came back and they said he's probly going to need a few screws or plates in there along with surgery to get them in. He's not too happy about that. 12 weeks off his bike. No summer job, no Woodward, and as he said 'i don't even have a girlfreind!'. Anywho, so i left the hospital around 8 and i think they were going to have him in surgery by 10.

EDIT: He ended up with a broken Femur. Clean break.

That's my story. I doubt you'll read the whole thing.

I read the whole thing as well. That's really bad for your friend and I wish him the best of luck. Ask him if the morphine actually worked, because it didn't for me. Also, never listen to doctors. Three months? I guarantee it will be more like five months before he gets back on a bike. Physical therapy should be loads of fun too. You just scared me to get back on my bike. Thanks.

Damn, that sucks. There's something to be said for taking it slow on learning tricks... I'd much rather ride all summer and be relaxed and have fun, than go for something I won't pull and break a bone and not even be able to walk for a long time. I'm never going to be a pro rider, so I don't need to do what they do.

Sorry, not to be mean, travisvotour, but this is the funniest/saddest thing I've ever read:
"So then I found out there is such thing as off-road BMXing."
BMX was BORN in the dirt. Kids were thrashing about on homemade BMX bikes in a dirt lot before mountain bikes were around.
I've always made it a point to make sure that ALL of my BMX bikes have seen some dirt.
Anyways, regardless - wlecome to BMX! Glad you made the switch.
I got my first BMX bike when I was 13. That was in 1983. A crap $80 Murray from Target. Swapped parts on it, went racing w/ it 3 times then switched out to a proper "BMX" bike. By then I was into freestyle. Got me a GT Performer. This was 1985. Rode flatland, ramps, and dirt all on that bike. We had a nieghborhood track we built, and all us kids would race each other. Or just hang out jumping.
It's 2007 now, I'm 36 and I'm still riding 20" BMX bikes. And 24" BMX cruisers. And my MTB, which was recently rebuilt to be more of a 26" BMX bike.
Welcome to BMX & enjoy the ride!
-Bill

I agree with you. But my friend who broke his leg, already knew whips and 3's and for the most part had them on lock. I knew he could do them at his trails, but this was his second time riding at our spot.

Unfortunately one of my goals for this summer was to get 3's good on our mainline. But now i'm hella scared.

Gunz- I didn't mean to scare you. And i'm sure it's all going to go over well. I give him 12 weeks to get back on his bike. Assuming he doesn't have ****luck like you did.

That really sucks for your friend man.

Ok, first bike:

Magna Fever
Aluminium frame, 1 piece cranks that I bent, 44/16 gearing, 10 mm axels front and rear, forks that I bent ooo yeah!

Second bike:

Haro Mirra 540, was pretty good, sealed 3 piece cranks, 3 tube cromo frame, full cromo bars and forks etc..

Third bike:

Fit Flow, pile of ****, bent the frame, snapped crank arm, destroyed front wheel, bent bars, i think thats about it.

Most recent bike:

Terrible one custom, stuff goes wrong quite often but all is good at the moment and I love it

Oh yeah, learnt 360 to fakies on flat banks yesterday

First Bike: Huffy race series or something(it wasn't too good for racing...)
Second bike: Mongoose Strike (really sucked, but I thought it was good at the time)
Third Bike: 2007 GT Powerseries Pro

All I really do is race, but I want to learn trails and some street. Nowhere around here has either though. The closest skatepark is like 45 minutes away.

I read the whole thing too Kinetik. That really sucks for your friend.

And WDS, do you still race at all?

Thanks b. Doctors are liars!

And oh, on aside note, I'm finally getting my fakies back a bit. The only problem is I'm having difficulty turning around at speed. Oh, and another sidenote. My crappy wellgo's really suck. They no longer have many pins left in them.

Just get some new pins. They're only like $4 on Dan's. Since your parents don't want to get you anything for bmx, just say that they will help you get grip so your feet don't come off or something.

No, but the pedals are actually deformed to the point where they are completely flat and filled in where the pins are missing.

I have Mosh's and they're great. I think they have sealed bearings, too. But I've also heard many good things about the Jimmy C's.

Yes, so I've heard. I just don't know if I would destruct of the Mosh's and if they would be too small.

" And WDS, do you still race at all?"
I don't know if you'd call it racing, but I've managed to hit at least one race a year the past 3 years. Just for fun. And there's talk of another indoor track here in MN, so I've been thinking getting the 24" out to race with the rest of the old guys.
