uhhh. I don't get it, how did he ruin it?
|
Cruize I understand there is some "perceivd" value if I kept it orginal, but than I would have an orginal GT Performer that was ugly and rusting away. This way I got a modified bike that is not rusting and I will be able to enjoy. All I did was take a $26 frame and make it look good. If this was a vintage mustang or an orginal first run Vette, yeah I might keep that orginal.
But hey I still enjoy your input. Chad |
the frame will still hold it's value if you don't break it first. we used to joke the GT stood for Gone Tomorrow because the broke so fast.
if someone decides they want to restore that frame, they would have repainted it anyways and got a new sticker pack for it. so you didn't really ruin it. enjoy it while you got it. |
At one time I had thought about putting a high end crank into it, but I think for now I will just go with a forged one piece crank, just to get me up and running. May change later to a 3-piece.
What size do you recomened? I'm thinking about a 43 teeth crank. Chad |
Went back to the shop where I bought the frame and he had the orginal crank set he let me have for $20, so that is what I will put in for now.

New images with the crank painted and the bars installed. This is the orginal crank and the bars are mongoose bars. I can always upgrade later.

when do you plan on riding the thing?
|
LOL I know it seems like I'm taking forever to finish, but I have to siphon money out of my boat fund to work on this project. I hope to be riding in 2-3 weeks.
Chad |
Here is a photo of the completed bike. Finished last night.

Very nice..i have a 2000 performer, chrome..feel like painting that for me? :-D
|
i think you should have put a custom paint job on that bike now dont get me wrong it looks nice but you sometimes want puctures but the bike looks nice
|
Thanks for the compliments. This was my first experiance at painting a bike so I didn't feel comfortable doing a more custom job.
Chad |
How's the paint holding out? Does it seem like it's gonna chip easily or . . . ?
|
So far so good. I sanded it down real well and than put on a good coat of primer. That was than followed by several layers of paint and than several layers of clear coat. I hope it holds up good.
Chad |
nice ride so far, but to REALLY finish it, u need to original stickies for it!
|
Make some original stickers.. like Chad Vert or something :) Would look absolutely grand, running up one of the bars..
|
I like that idea. Where can you get custom stickers? I think I would like to get a sitcker that says "Eat Dirt"
Chad |
Try these sites for your custom stickers:

how old is that frame? it looks old.the before picture
|
I figure that it is about an '87 GT Performer.
Chad |
chad did you put clear coat on the bike after you painted it if not it will chip easy.
