What was...

Your first 'upgrade' on your first complete bike.

And while on that note, what was the first part you broke?

I'll go first:

My first 'upgrade' was an S&M Redneck LT and Primo Brian Foster grips.

The first part i broke was my rear wheel on my Haro X1. That thing was trashed.

1985 - while assembling my GT Performer, I put on a shiny, chrome Tioga layback seatpost instead of the white straight post that came in the box.
So really, I've never ridden a "stock" bike

First broken part: Crappy 1 piece cranks, replaced with my current 3 piece's, then it was replacing the crappy bent DK bars with Haro Slims.

Then my first upgrade was: Full brakes, Evolvers, Monolever, Slic Cable, Kool Stops.

I haven't actually broken anything on this bike yet. Pretty solid parts on it, some of them are worn after a year but not broken. I replaced the grips and pedals within the first couple days, though...

Haha. I think it was your fork/headset. You let your bike fly into that tree one day at 495 and the fork was hella bent and it killed your headset cause you rode it like that. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Good question. I'm new to BMX, old to biking, and I rescued an old 24" Schwinn frame & wheels. It looks beautiful to me even though it's funky primed here and there. I need break pads cause there are none. What would you recommend?

Odyssey 1x4's or 2x4's. In your case, since it's a 24", 2x4's are probably better in your scenario.

I really can't remember, since that was back in the late 1970's.

There seems to be a trend emerging with broken 1 piece cranks

If you have all that money, just get a cheap set of 3 piece cranks until you get your new bike. The Industry Rockers($45) aren't terrible an they'll definitely be better than a 1 piece crank.

Actually, the BB comes with the cranks. And then you can just get a cheap Odyssey sprocket.
