HARO Function F4 question

I usually hang out in the Classic & Vintage and Mech forums but I picked up a HARO Function F4 at a Garage sale this weekend for 40 bucks.

Is this a fairly decent Bike/frame to hang on to?

Its a Cool flat olive Green, in great shape cosmetically, needs a little brake work, CK headset is sightly loose, 1 piece crank setup.
My son is 8 and currently has a 1 year old lower end Redline thats holding up well although it is not 4130. My thought was to upgrade if he continued to BMX and eventually require a new Frame/bike. ( he killed a couple of hand me down the big box bikes pretty quick)

My original thought was to grab it for parts, like wheels, etc but it looks like it was just used for a few tricks and basic neighborhood use (scrapped rear and front pegs is the worst damage)

Any information such as year etc would be appreciated. Nearest I can find to the looks is a 2003 F3 at the BMX musem web page.

well, its definately a good price, take off the reflectors, lower the seat, take of the chain guard, and maybe get rid of the front brakes, but thats up to you.

Thanks for the feed back.
I'll hang on to it for now seems like a decent bike.
Learned a lot from this forum just browsing.
The Bike is worth upgrading if and when he gets serious and starts breaking stuff.

I am guessing from the discription it is 4130 3 main tubes and the stays are 1020?
Does this make sense. Those dropouts look real beefy and using 1020 stay material means these never see enough stress for 4130

LBS that does a lot of BMX stuff said most of his upgrades for cranks ar not due to damage but more status and he replaces forks and Brake pads a lot for the Dirt jumper guys.

1020 is Hi-tensile steel, AKA cheaper, weaker material. Watch out for that

Not a Stolen bike. It was a Garage sale that also had a nice GT Bike. The Dad & Mom were cleaning out the unused stuff. Said he bought it new at the LBS

But a loose headset is something you want to take care of ASAP. That can be a sign of something that will really wreck your day.
