I Hate Ebay.

I was bidding on Shimano brake levers that I've wanted for like ever and the guy outbid me with like 5 seconds left. I just figured I would express my hate for that guy here. Haha.

I almost never use eBay, and on the rare occasions I have, I've always used Buy it Now.

I tend to use the "buy it now" listings almost exclusively as well. I've bid and won on a number of things over the years, but I tend to find that many of the ebay stores have pretty good prices and many are faster at getting things shipped than the big brother online stores.

That's why you gotta lurk until the sale is like right about to be over like he did, and bid the least ammount you need over the other person to win.

You can always use an automated bidding program... you can pretty much always win with those.

Yeah but you have to put a big bid in to win. People will just keep bidding until they take over.

That's not always true. I usually get my stuff pretty cheap.

Just put the most you want to pay, and if they want to pay more, that's their problem.

Yeah, unless the other guy also has an automated bidding program, and has the timing set better than yours.

Then you are screwed. Most people don't have those programs, though. It's pretty much all luck.

Wait till there is only like 20 seconds left in the auction and then bid like $100 more. as long as they don't bid more then that it goes back to the last price.

I'm using eBay less frequently now as it appears that eBay always seems to be on the side of the person who wants to scam me. The last thing I wanted was a set of rear lights for my car (I only needed one) and after winning the bid (at a pretty good price) the seller advised he had broken one of the lights during packing. I asked which one (since I only needed one) but he wouldn't tell me which. In the end he gave me a refund (which is fine) but it stinks of "I didn't sell this item for a high enough price, I want out".

When i got my brake levers off eBay, my friend with the account had an eazy time getting them. And they cost a reasonable price as well. Too bad i ended up not using them anymore.

About a year ago, I was bidding on an Italian Stiletto (NOT on eBay). I kept getting out-bid, so finally I gave up. Eventually found another one on the same bidding site and bought it for about $50. It's a nice knife.
