Does anyone on here actually race BMX?
and if so, what's your training regiment? If you live in a cooler climate, how are you keeping fit through the winter?
My training regiment is doing loads of anabolic steroids, with the occasional sprint around the local velodrome on my track bike. Works like a charm.
that's what I did last year, but I couldn't find racing pants that fit properly.

Whoever bothers to look like that has no life.
Uh, yeah that would be pointless.
But it's a fake photo anyway. |
Yea I know it kinda screams it.
I race. For training I lifted for like 7 months for football, but that really helped me with racing. For the winter, get rollers or a different indoor trainer.

I mostly ate a lot of Mexican food when I raced. And rode my bike a bit.
good, that's what I'm doing.
Well, I started racing before I went into freestyle. All I can really say is keep your endurance up and I mean UP! high carb foods are good for energy too (duh) hmm what else... oh yeah since I live in northern ohio we have pretty bad winters a whole season of not riding blew and freestyle peaked my interest a lil more and we have indoor parks like chenga, the flow, section 8 etc...
I did over 40 miles yesterday. I rode to the track, but they were taking rollers out with a bobcat so I couldn't actually ride it. Did you have a routine of a set amount of riding per day, or a set amount f track time per week or anything along those lines?
I still try to do around 25-50 miles in a week and I don't race anymore so I'd say up it from there. The best you can really do is find about where your limit is and from just under that work up from there at a steady pace. but definatley try to do a certain amount of I guess mileage per week.
If you me to suggest a training program, let me know.

[edit] flatheadshovel? I'll take an Evo, thank you. |
I am starting out my first race next weekend. Used to ride road, and ran XC at the collegiate level. Any tips or info I should know?
How are you at mad sprints?
Not bad. But I am going to start doing hill sprint repeats on the bmx up steep grass hills to work on that, and also all out grass 100 yard sprints.

more sprint training Ideas with details please. |
Tie a car tire to your bike, and do one minute sprints in the dirt. Seriously. Every other day, work on your technical skills.
By the way, the word is regimen, not regiment. A regiment is a division or group of military forces.

Google training regimes for track sprinters, that should help.
Get a road bike, or a fixed gear and go on some long rides as well to improve overall fitness. You can ride a road bike easier in inclement weather than a BMX too. |
Here's my training week.
S- 1 hour road ride. M- 30 min road ride + upper body weights. T- Grass sprints 100 yd 3setsx5 45 sec recovery. W- 45 min uptempo road ride. T- Hill Sprints Grass and Road. F- BMX spin session in the forest. Fast. S- Core work. Brian that sounds like some good old fashion hard work. I might just do that. I don't have track around so that worries me. |
