I looked and I still need help.

Please don't bash, just help. I've looked and I sort of have an idea of what I want. I"m gonna ask though just in case there are some bikes out there that I missed. Well, first off, I'm 31, (5' 10" 170) and I have a 4 year old son who loves to ride. He has a little 16 inch diamondback. right now, i have a frankenbike. It's a John Holmes frames with some slim bars and redline cranks i think. i really have no idea what else is on it. but the thing is, it's BEAT!....and heavy (33lbs) I want to get a new bike because I guess I'm just tired of looking at the one I have now. I really don't wanna build another bike. I'm looking for a complete bike. I've been looking around and some that I like are the Eastern Element, Kink Roc and the Rockstar Pro. I did like the KHE Impact Pro, but then i saw the price tag and I really don't like it that much any more. I'm trying to stay around $500-$600 and at or under 28 pounds. Thanks for the help.

Honestly, I'd steer clear of Eastern, Kink, and Rockstar (especially Rockstar). Look into DK, Haro, and Fit, or possibly MirraCo, although you can only find those at Trek dealers.

Is the rockstar really that bad? And why?

also, so I don't have to start a new thread, does anyone know what happened to Dirt Brothers? I can't find anything on the web about them.

What are you planning on doing with your bike? Your weight goal at that price range should be easy.

If you're not jumping, have you considered a cruiser?

Either way, you should be able to find something pretty nice in your budget. Do you have any preferred brands, or is it simply about weight and price?

The Kink Roc is probably your best bid for your money. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

are there any that i'm missing or should be looking at? everytime i go onto danscomp, i see something else. the thing is, i don't know what parts are good and what aren't. I'm completely lost. what a bike needs and what it doesn't.
This is fun though. I swear, i'm like a little kid all over again.

If you're not going big when it comes to jumps, you just want to check the parts spec to make sure there's no crap. As it is, you can probably find something suitable way under your budget, then swap out what you don't like. Bars, grips, and pedals are probably the first to go.

ok, well i went down to the local bikeshop and he had a few Fit's (AM and flow trail i think) and i was explaining to him what i want and said that since i want a light bike and i won't do alot of jumping, that i should go with an aluminum bike frame and look at racing bikes. then he started showing me all these free agents and yeah, they were light, but aren't free agents crap? and was he right about the aluminum frame? if so, what bikes are out there that are good that have auminum frames cuz the only ones i saw looked weird? it looked like the front of the frame was bulky.
Also, i was looking on line and i saw a company called Dialled. are they any good? and if so, where do i order?
gracias

I have a Free Agent Speedway, had it since forever and it's great. The other bikes from Free Agent I don't know how those are.

Dialled are a British company I think. Frames are only for Trails or race

you know what? this is just stupid. i've decided that i'm gonna build another one. probably s&m again. i'm going all black too. i'm gonna try to build thid bike as light as possible but with quality parts. i'm guessing that a grand should about cover it, right?

if anyone has suggestions are parts and things, please fgeel free to chime in and thanks to everyone on complete bikes. just really can't find what i truely want, so building one is the only way to go.
