upgrading a mongoose

hey i was just wondering if it would be completely stupid to try and upgrade a mongoose brawler. i know i would have to replace just about everything to make it decent, but im not that great of a rider myself, so i would just upgrade some of the things. i just dont know if it just better to get a new bike. thanks in advance for any help.

BikingSoCal 08-21-07 11:12 AM

If I were you I would just go ahead and get a new bike. It will probably cost more to upgrade the Mongoose than it would be to get a new bike. How much were you willing to spend on the upgrades?

pbpro29 08-21-07 11:23 AM

$200-$250

BikingSoCal 08-21-07 11:27 AM

Yeah, just get a new bike. You will go nowwhere with that money on upgrading. Just save an extra 50$ and get a Dk Six Pack. It has everything you need to get you going. It will last a long time.

fuzzbox 08-21-07 04:42 PM

Saving an extra 50, you mean spending. Dk six packs are 300.

FitRider 921 08-21-07 04:49 PM

As in, save up an extra $50, so then you can spend it.

thermo 08-21-07 04:58 PM

I understood BikingSoCal the first time I read it. I didn't go out looking for a $250 DK six-pack when I read his post. :D

BikingSoCal 08-21-07 04:58 PM

Yes FitRider and thermo, that is what I meant. It is nice to have people that understand things more than others. Oh yeah, why does everyone call you Gunz?

thermo 08-21-07 05:00 PM

Read his sig...

BikingSoCal 08-21-07 05:02 PM

Oh! I didn't even notice people had sigs. I am new. Sorry about that!

Because I'm jacked out of my mind, of course.

thermo 08-21-07 05:03 PM

How can you not read someone's sig. :D It's not like you have enable sig-viewing or anything. ;)

BikingSoCal 08-21-07 05:05 PM

Haha. I am just a dumbass sometimes.

Superbeast 08-21-07 08:11 PM

Its not a waste to upgrade a mongoose brawler. Why would it be. That frame is extremely strong, i own one myself. Ive put it through almost everything that a bike can go through and there are no dents or anything like that. upgrade it, dont buy a brand new bike

If you could upgrade a bike for $250, which is like nothing if you buy good parts, why wouldn't you just spend an extra $50 for a whole bike with better parts that will last longer?

mhm word.

Superbeast 08-22-07 09:30 AM

because as he said

im not that great of a rider
So why would he buy a brand new complete when its unneccessary, instead upgrade parts that he needs, and continue to do that as he progresses

premiumbmx2005 08-22-07 10:09 AM

upgrading a mongoose is about as useful as upgrading a ugo

250$ is enough to buy target parts.

thermo 08-22-07 04:20 PM

Target doesn't have that many parts. Maybe new pedals, pegs, seat, and um...brake pads? You could throw in a headlight and flashing tail light while you are at it. Oh, and some tire-flys.

Then you would have a totally awesome custom complete.

Superbeast 08-22-07 08:49 PM

The point is, why buy a brand new bike when it is un-necessary. Upgrade the parts as they break. Thats all that is necessary

fuzzbox 08-22-07 11:06 PM

More like that's not the point, do you know how much good parts are?

eightdip 08-23-07 05:29 AM

Get a six pack

thermo 08-23-07 11:48 AM

Do sit-ups all day, and soon you will have a six pack. For free.

Why isn't anybody laughing? I thought it was a good joke! ...or, maybe not.
