Agressive pedals

I'm looking into new pedals and I want some with good traction; I'm more interested in affordability and durability over weight. I like the Animal Hamiltons but the pins don't look all that grippy
https://www.danscomp.com/465236.php?cat=PARTS

My old bike had these mean little welded in pins that tore my soles to crap but they held like no other, the Odyssey Cielencki's also look nice
https://www.danscomp.com/465139.php?cat=PARTS

Also, what's the difference between sealed and unsealed bearings, and is it worth the extra cash to get sealed?

Unsealed are fine, go with the Cielencki's.

Both pedals are pretty good. I have Hamiltons and they are decent. If I could pick pedals over again, I'd probably go with Shadow Nostras, but I can't complain.

Sealed pedals just spin better and feel smoother and keep dirt and debris out better. For the most part, they aren't worth it, though. Sealed pedals cost almost twice as much. Unless you have a lot of money, sealed isn't really worth the extra cash.

I rode those for years, and there's a reason that they stopped making them. I still have scars.

I just won some magnesium sealed eastern pedals. They are light as ball z. They seem like they will be excessively grippy, but I haven't had time to put them on yet. I've had my hamiltons for probably over a year and are still fine. I just put longer pedals on the inside and shorter on the outside and they grip amazingly without gashing my shins to no end.

Thanks guys, those beartrap pedals look like they would destroy my shins, pants, and shoes all in the first day, I'm leaning towards the Hamiltons because they come with different length pins so I can try different setups to see which works best.

I have Demolition magnesium unsealed pedals. Haven't had them long enought to say how good the seals are, but the grip is amazing. There is no sliding around once you set your foot down on them, plus they come with different length pins removable with an allen wrench. I bought the rasta colored ones from DansComp, and they were around $50. Might be expensive, depending on your budget but a damn fine pedal, none the less. Here's a link to a picture

I run the Gielenki's on my street bike, I don't think there grippy enough. I don't like em. I won't take em off till I wear em out though, and they seem to never wear out.
I run Su-Zu's on my race bikes. (when I run flats) They are grippy. love em. Sealed ones arn't very pricy either. like 40 bucks??

Going back to the sealed vs unsealed bit, I ride in the rain and through a lot of dirt and grit pretty much year round, would that tilt the balance in favor of sealed pedals for me?

I don't think so. The seal doesn't keep water out. keep them greased.
I try and never ride in the rain.
