Redline RL3.1 Any good?

I am looking to buy my son a bike and the local bike shop has the green Redline RL3.1 (link below).

https://www.redlinebicycles.com/frees...kes/RL3-1.html

But it looks like it has the crank and sprocket off of this bike here:

https://www.redlinebicycles.com/frees...kes/RL7-1.html

They want $294.99 for it. Is bike ok, or could I get something better for $300.00. I need to stay around this price range and my son really is not a hard rider, I just want to get him something nice.

Thanks for your help!!!
