How would I identify a chromoly frame in a bike cemetary?

How would I identify a chromoly frame in a bike cemetary?
There's a guy near me that has a place right out of Sanford and Son, and I'd like to find a good frame (perhaps) if that's possible.
Background: I'm 6,0 195 pounds, stupid, and 41. I used to ride all the time but now just mountain bike and such. But I want to catch a bit of air again. Nothing crazy, just dirt jumps and a few curb hops.

Do you really want to take a chance by riding a frame you found in a junk yard, when you could buy a good second hand frame from someone else for like $50-100?
As to figuring out what type of metal a frame is - generally if it says 'NEXT' or 'Mongoose' or such it won't be chromoly, so you can rule those out.
Aluminum frames sound very different if you tap on the metal than steel ones do, but it's hard to describe...

try a magnet. It will at least give let you know it your dealing with steel.

Anything that's in a cemetery that "looks" worth saving should have tig welds. Many crap bikes just had lugs or arc welds. Even then, up until maybe 7 years ago the Chinese started tig welding all the hi-tensile stuff.
Even with proper tig welding beads, many frames are front triangle 4130 only. Heck, even today a lot of good bikes you find don't even have 4130 dropouts. Post pics, most of us could name anything from 1977 on I bet.
