i used to have one way back in 1985 (i think that was the time when bmx's were a real boom and was real commercial then and this was in the u.k!)- my pop took me to the local bike store -downstairs they had normal racers (or skinnies as i used to call em) and ladies / kiddies bikes etc and a few of the black BOMBERS that were just about going out of fashion phase-but i wanted a bmx and they were on upper floor - i remember smell of new rubber as different bmx models lay side by side in rows--i wanted the diamond back - but no pop wasn't sure about the high asking price -around 220!! the salesman then directed us to a new range introduced to the bmx scene - the B.H range! ".....good quality stylish bmx bikes within the budget !" remarked the "not bothered really" dull salesman- there was a white framed one with blue trimmings (skyway wheels...i think, pedals etc) looked o.k - and i can't really remember the rest of the range - but anyways i was forcefully ended up buying the red framed one with yellow trimmings (yellow tyres-chunky front ones and skinny rears - black hand grips - crude to the touch which i eventually replaced with soft touch mushroom ones - the pedals were chunky black slaps of plastic and the seat was a cheap/nasty moulded hard pointed bright yellow which got dirty easily - the brakes were disappointing -it was as if the company b.h raided the old spares bin- huge clumsy brake levers grips/extra chunky block style brake pads with old fashioned nuts/fitments that rusted as well as other parts- i used to regularly oil the metal bits with a cloth - mind you the finish of the paintwork was not bad and the decals/ stickers were basic and minimal in bright yellow- the chrome bits were a little on the cheap side - overall it had that happy-go-lucky thing about it and you began to like it as it growed on you in sentimental terms - almost felt sorry for it. I remember when i used to doss the streets (-i was known as the B.H boy-) the chunky front tyre with its gum coloured sidewalls - the tyres themselves were durable - but got dirty quick obviously. sometimes other kids on their bikes used to taunt me - they themselves had haros,d.b's,mongooses with their flashy wheels like z-rims,skyways in different colors etc - but i didn't care - i used to bike to local events - race s and freestyle - and remember this american dude (some bmx star) from america- guest appearing on a freestyle event - i think his name was eric or erik something - A few months later they introduced a chrome version with black trimmings - kinda looked desirable . anyways a few months later my beloved b.h was stolen and i lost her for good - it was a sad moment until i saved up to buy myself a brand new falcon pro theta in beautiful chrome and black trimmings and nice bike sticker decals in digital mock up styleee - where the b.h was the ford escort of all bikes in that term- the theta was the AUDI TT with slight alfa romeo touches - i think this bike was well ahead of its time in profile- a real beauty - until that got stolen from me too! if i can get hold of either of these bikes now- preferably in sort of mint condition - that would be bliss for sentimental reasons ..

hi,

i've just signed in to say i *do* remember them since i am the proud owner of one, a blue bh bmx california!!!!
it was a present (summer '85, afair) and i still keep it!!! it's a little bit rusty and stuff but i *L*O*V*E* it. this week i decided i wanted to "update" the bmx and another '80s classic. i began with the classic. this week is the turn fo the bmx. i've been to two bike stores and was amazed to see tires and tubes and stuff are still being made for bmx! wow! i really didn't expect that. so i have bought a good pump, first thing. the tube needed a good. i'v realized it doesn't keek the air for a long time which makes sense. after almost twenty years, the rubber must be worn... so this week i'll get a a new tube and tire. at the local shop they sell one (michelin diabolo 20x1.75) however i've been surfing the web to find a real wide array of tires for bmx 20x1.75!!!! great!!! Maxxis MaxxDaddy 20 x 1.75 BMX and Maxxis Holy Roller 20 x 1.75 BMX are the ones i like the most. look at the rubber surface. they almost look like the original bmx california tires!!! sorry to say you can't get them colored. so it's only black. it'd be cool to have again those original yellow tires. so that's it! i'm gonna give this bmx a good "update". want to get that feeling again, riding that bike is an experience.

greetings,
