New to BMX Freestyle Completely

I was curious on what bikes would be best for street, stairs, rails and sometimes dirt jumps? I have absolutely no experience when it comes to street but I would love to start as soon as possible. I just don't want to be ripped off looking around online for a good bike. Any tips, bike suggestions, part, etc. would help veryyy much. Thank you.

Danscomp for basically everything. For complete bikes, look for as much chromo as possible, full is best, obviously, but if you're on a budget, then get as much as you can.

If you are just starting then get a used bike with 14mm (oversize axles) and 48 spokes because your going to crash, upgrade as you go. New Redlines start about $200 new. If you can't or do not want to do bar spins then stay away from bikes with rotors/gyros as the brakes on these bikes are terrible, 6-7 cables to the rear brake instead of 1 so no stopping power.

You can still barspin and whip with a straight cable.....and for $200, that bike either A) isn't chromo, or B) not made for freestyle riding.

I'm looking for something to do everything with, including barspins. I'm not on a budget and I want something that will hopefully last me a while. Seeing the names of some parts of the bike is like reading a different language to me so this is slightly confusing. I would like to buy a full setup but have no idea where to go to get one and have no idea what I am looking for. When I say I have no experience I literally mean zero. What's Chromo? A type of metal that I should be looking for? I'm pretty out there, the moment I get the bike I will be doing stairs the first day just a heads up. Maybe starting with a 4-5 stair but still. Thanks for all of your help everyone. It's much needed.

Yes, Chromo is the strongest there is. Get full chromo if possible. And you can still do stuff like like barspins and whips without a detangler.

I went to that Dancomp site and went to bikes, all of the brands under there I have never heard of so am lost. What brand should I go for? I want to do Street.

we could probly help you out more if you gave us a budget

Street rider 04-11-11 07:43 AM

As long as you stay away from Eastern/Nitrous, you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding something good.

GailliotC 04-11-11 10:57 AM

My budget is 1000. I'm not saying I want to spend that much but if I have to I will. I want something that'll be light and last me a while. I'm not too scared of stairs or anything so the moment I get the bike I will most likely be doing them that day. So all in all, I just want a good stable bike that'll last me a while and doesn't weigh much. If you have any ideas or need to know anything else let me know. Thanks.

Also I know buying a complete bike will have some ****ty stuff on it, well not ****ty but not very good. So if there's like different stuff I should buy to replace on the bike that would help aswell. Chains, Brakes, Bars, etc. Just let me know and I will take your advice. :)

Sunday Aaron Ross Pro complete. That will last you and have some cash left over. Although at a 1k budget, you can build up a custom bike. The last two I have done, came in at a grand.

Street rider 04-11-11 07:51 PM

The Ross is such a sick bike. WTP Envy thats just a touch under a grand. The Kink Apex is nice too. And honestly, even buying a complete, you don't need to upgrade parts until they break/fail. Allows you to get a feel for what you really want out of your bike.

GailliotC 04-11-11 08:44 PM

That bike is sick as ****. Haha. Well from the looks. I just wish they didn't only have Yellow :/ The Envy comes in black but may break the 1k budget. Also, you HAVE to choose an option on the bikes and it says like 20.75 or 21.75, what is that? Thanks guys, this is unreal how much help you are. I really am grateful.

What about the WTP Justice 2011 Bike, any good? or the WTP Crysis? ooorrr hhaha the Scout Bike (Sunday)? Any other bikes I should check out?

Those numbers represent the length of the top tube. Some like a long tube and others like a short one. I have a park frame at 20.5 and a flatland frame that is 18.75"

Dan's has a section called tech help on their site. Take a peek. This may help you also.

Those are hi-tensile steel frames. You want full chromoly steel. Take a look at Colony also. Do you have any shops where you live? See what they offer.

Street rider 04-12-11 07:44 AM

A local shop is usually a pretty good place to start, get a feel for what size you're looking for (top tube, crank arms, bars, etc)

GailliotC 04-14-11 05:28 PM

Well I have no idea if there are any local shops. Any known name shops that may be around CA?

Street rider 04-15-11 07:44 AM

Depends on the area of California

A phone book or Google might help.
