Best Tire PSI

i heard that with certain tire pressure u ca supposedly bounce higher and make your landing a bit more softer.

what PSI should i put in my tires. my tires max PSI is 65. i have mine at like 55 front and back

should i change it? if it helps i mainly just jump steps..

bmxinvasion 12-15-04 06:29 PM

I have kenda koverts which take up to 120 psi I only run 85 psi front and rear. What is the recommended pressure for your tires?

rice400 12-15-04 06:49 PM

something like 40-65 PSI

i definitely know its 65 PSI but i'm not sure about the minimum

bxbmx 12-15-04 07:19 PM

id say 40-60 on the front, and 60-80 on the back. Remember weight distribution goes to the rear.

rice400 12-15-04 07:21 PM

would this soften landing at all?

rice400 12-15-04 08:16 PM

will it?

bmxrdr88 12-15-04 08:22 PM

yeah it probably will. just get used to the landings.

hooligan 12-15-04 08:23 PM

If it's higher, it'll most likely make your landing ROUGHER. You'll feel the shock more. Tires that are soft act as shock absorbers.

I mountain bike and just recently I went up to about 40 psi. (I ride hardtail). I could feel every single bump there was and before at about 30 psi, my tires smoothed it all out. Higher psi=more impact. However, the tires are more rigid and also offer less rolling resistance. So in turn, you get to go faster with less effort. Just like riding with a flat tire and a pumped tire. The pumped is easier to pedal with less traction.

By the way, the bmx forum's grammer and capitalization is nothing compared to the mountain biking forum. Heh!

FireTeamCharlie 12-15-04 09:57 PM

But the mountain biking forum is full of um... actually I've never been there.

bxbmx 12-15-04 10:26 PM

actually the only reason i like to overinflate em, is because i dont have to go back and fill em again, at least for a while

Probably due to the fact that five out of six people in here haven't gotten past the third grade yet.

As for how high to pump your tires: As high as they can go.

BMXTRIX 12-16-04 08:14 PM

If you are coming in for harsh landings - about 60PSI is about as low as you want to run your tubes. If you get much lower, then the odds of you getting pinch flats go way up. If you are in skateparks, you generally want to be closer to 80-85PSI so you can maintain speed and becoming smoother.

Flatland: Above 90PSI

JMC 12-17-04 04:03 AM

make em as hard as hell!! HARDER!! HARDER!! HARDER!!! MAKE IT F555ING HARDER ALREADY!! F555ING HARDER!!!

just make em hard.

bxbmx 12-17-04 04:14 PM

hard as a rock, hard as multivariable calculus

JMC 12-18-04 04:27 AM

Hard Dammit!!

i ride at 110-120psi in the back and about 100-110psi in the front. i totally agree with JMC

sxe fbm rider 12-18-04 05:17 PM

What PSI you have depends on what the tire says to use. I usually will pump my tire like 5 or 10 psi below max. If its 90-110, I'll do 100. If its like 45-65, I'll do 60.

i bmx like everyone else on this thread. if its softer, you go through tubes like nothing on earth. that's if you ride street. on vert, i find soft tires cause slippage on the ramps. dirt, flatland and racing, i dunno. it also depends on your discipline.

its tru

bxbmx 12-19-04 08:32 AM

if u have girly wrists, dont pump it so hard

queensrider86 12-19-04 06:14 PM

when i do dirt jumps, i let some air out of my tires so i don't bounce on any of the rocks. we can never make a good ramp in forest park, because every time i do, the parks department tears them down
