How heavy?? How long?? Please help...
I'm doing research for a college paper on how to improve upon bicycle wheel technology in bmx bikes. Primarily those used for dirt jumps. I'm trying to find out exactly what it is that the riders are looking for in a bike and/or what is already available in stores.
How much do your typical spokes/rims/hubs weigh?
How long do spokes/rims/hubs usually last before needing to be replaced?
How long would you like them to last?
How much does the entire bike usually weigh?
If you have any input on the above questions, PLEASE help me out.
thanks,
Zortwoman

Uhh well obviously every one wants their hub to last for ever, but that aint usualy the case, from my experiance a hub of mine lasts around a year to a year and a half. For dirt jumping your looking at a light bike probly around 28lbs or even 26lbs. But the problem is when you shave of weight you also shave of strength. I fully reaserch every expensive part i get to make sure its not ****. my bike is around about 26-27lbs largely helped by my front wheel and limited ed fly cranks. well not sure you could call them limited edition but they are not available because they got recalled, but they are light and sergio layos has been riding them from the start.
Hub weigh varies alot. go to www.alans.co.uk and look up all of the hubs and average their weight, you can also do that with rims and spokes.
hope ive helped
