You do realize that 45-15 and 45-14 make it a lot harder to accelerate, right?

anything with a 45 tooth is stupid in racing. you can get the same ratio by using smaller gears, which in turn, will save weight (the goal in building a race bike). I run a 38-14, its great out of the gate and out of turns... if you track is as fast as you think, try a 38-15 or 40-14. A large sprocket and a small freewheel will give you more high-end speed (top speed) but using a smaller sprocket and a larger freewheel will give you better starts and acceleration. Find a happy medium, probably more towards top speed for longer, fast tracks. and yes a top speed ratio set up will make it harder to pedal, so keep in mind, you need to pedal the whole track. You can't make your ratio too big or it will be too hard to pedal the whole time.
my i suggest buying a couple gears so you can change your set up depending on what track your at.
also, changing the amount of teeth on the freewheel will make more of a difference than changing the sprocket.

i run a 42-15 at the my home track, i run a 44-15 at another track thats really close to home, its all personal preference and track situation. i also know people that will change gears depending on who they will be racing at that particular race (i dont do this) but i know it is done by some of my friends

thats the gearing that i feel comfortable on. and i know that its harder to accelerate, but at the local track, we have a steep start. i also race a with about 5 other setups, so im fine.
