Help Needed Identifying Old Mongoose

Hi all,

As a child, I used to own a Mongoose that I would ride around the neighborhood. However, after my family and I moved we weren't able to keep the bike, so we had to give it away. I stumbled across an old photo of the bike, and was wondering if anybody could help figure out what kind of Mongoose it was.

My curiosity comes because I want to start riding again for the first time in many years, and I want to get a bike like it. I don't have a lot of money to spend so probably a Walmart bike will have to make do (which is okay with me, I loved my old bike).

Thanks!

this is so weird. I just now joined because I own the exact same bike, from what I can tell in the picture, and its making a creaking sound and the crank nut on the left side keeps coming loose about every mile or so. I what going to wait until tomorrow to take some pictures to post on here to see if someone can tell me the tools needed to remove the cranks and bearing assembly so that I can check and grease them. I'm getting into biking too. I am trying to lose weight and cycling will be my form of cardio a few times a week. right now I only have 2 cheap, low end bikes that will have to do. hopefully will be good bikes to learn to work on and then use that knowledge on future, nicer bikes. in the meantime, I need to get them running as smooth as possible just to be able to ride about 5-6 miles each time.

I can give you the model number for mine but it hasn't been too helpful in finding much information as I purchased the bike in the late 90's or so and there just isn't much info out there. the bike was probably made by Pacific Cycle, who purchased Mongoose around the year 2000. that's what the sticker on mine says. I removed the sticker on the top bar of mine when I bought it so I don't know the exact model. I can tell yours has the same tire tread as mine. i think they are the same bike. I will post a picture of mine on here tomorrow morning and you can check to see if it looks the same. the 2 models I found closest to mine are the Spark and the Status.

OK they don't look like the identical bike, but all I really have to judge that on is the sticker on the frame. if you could post a better picture that would clear this up. I think I'm going to tear off the Mongoose sticker so that the frame is just the aluminum color.
