Good BMX brands to look out for for my 8yr old ?
Hi,
I've just sold my sons Haro 16.5 BMX, because he was starting to outgrow it.
Admittedly i do not know much about bmx'ing, but i'd like to get him a desirable brand, so that i'll be able to sell it on in a couple of yrs, once he outgrows that one too. I was able to quickly sell the Haro, because of its name.
I guess I'm looking at an 18.5"
I hear RedLine is also a good brand.
AND that's as far as my BMX brand knowledge goes.
Another question......My other son who's a small 9yr old has a Felt 18.5.
Is Felt a respected name in BMX's ? The local bike store has Felt I've also seen a Giant at the local bike store. Or should I be looking for another Haro ?
They just like to ride. Neither are particularly into tricks. That may change at a later date, but for now, they're just like to ride around the community.

OK OP here. While googling a little trying to find a decent BMX to buy, i just found out that there's a track near by.. Actually only 5miles door to door !!!! So this changes EVERYTHING !! I think I'm going to take my boys down there to try their hand at BMX racing. It'll be a lot of fun for them to get into..
So with that in mind, my question now changes.
a:\ Now I know there's a track nearby and 100% my boys will love racing there, I should be looking to buy a specific BMX for racing (as well as doing its other job of running around the community) However, I know jack about BMX's and BMX racing. (as you guys can probably already tell) What should I be looking out for ? Boy is 8, and probably 44" tall though I could be out as much as 5" there on his height..
b.\ is my eldest boys current Felt 18.5 (pic attached) good enough for a track ? or should I sell it and get something more specific ?

sprint BMX track race bikes [as seen in the London olympics ] are made significantly lighter than a stunts on the street bike .
since you say there is a local track , have you scouted it out to see what the other's use?
IDK where you are looking , LBS here carries Felt, RedLine, a few other brands ..

Bmx racing is an addictive family oriented sport. Me and my kids race a lot locally and do quite a bit of traveling as well for racing. Let your kids ride what they have at the track. The first steps are learning to balance at the gate and pump over the jumps and rollers. As they improve they will need a lighter race specific bike to continue progressing. Hanging out at the track and spending time with other racers and parents will give you a better sense of what is needed when your kids start to improve. Race bikes are expensive, but there is almost always someone selling a bike at the track that their kid has outgrown. My kids race bikes would have cost thousands new, but cost me only a few hundred by buying used from other racers.
