G.I. Joe - 5/10

Predictable, if only because the Evil Plan and plot twists are largely revealed very early. However, that's exactly the way the television series worked, so you could say that it stays true to the formula. Whether you enjoy the formula or not is up to you, of course.

Korean actor Lee Byung Hun, according to my wife (Korean herself, so she keeps up on these things), supposedly caught Bruce Willis's eye enough that Willis encouraged the director to give Byung-Hun more screen time and better closeups. He's really pretty good, and more than holds his own in this bunch.

Larry Crowne 6/10 - It had some moments but seemed lacking overall - kindof disjointed. The chemistry between Tom Hanks' and Julia Roberts' characters seemed really forced.

The Campaign - 6/10. I'm not proud of myself about the bits it made me laugh over as it was pretty crude and inappropriate, but it did make me laugh, so it did the job it set out to do.

Lincoln - 8/10. Watching Daniel Day Lewis is as close to meeting Lincoln in real life as I will ever come. His performance was an 11/10. He didn't play Lincoln, he was Lincoln. As a big Lincoln fan, I thought his performance was a real tour de force.

I could never forget I was watching Sally Field when she was on camera, but she was much better in the role of Mary Todd "Don't Call Me Crazy" Lincon than I feared she would be. And Tommy Lee Jones did a great job of playing Tommy Lee Jones. Nobody could play Tommy Lee Jones better.

But God Almighty, does Spielberg even know there is a concept called subtlety? I get kind of tired of his beating you over the head and all but screaming in your ear "I think this is important, so pay attention" when he wants to show something he thinks is important. (This factor made my wife enjoy the movie less than I did.) I mean, did he really need to start with a hackneyed, forced recitation of the Gettysburg Address by two Union soldiers, one a farmboy hick (white) and the other urbane and erudite (black)?

Django - 9/10-Great movie, made me laugh & wince. Loved Jamie Foxx, Leonardo, & Christoph.

247 Farenheit - 2/10- Based on a true story but it was quite far-fetched.

Oblivion - 6/10. Great visuals, interesting story that my wife and I deciphered on the way home, hampered (IMO) by the punchline from the clown joke.

The Impossible 10/10 - Great movie, based on a true story about a family who visits Thailand for a Christmas Holiday during the '04 Tsunami. It's terribly gut wrenching and I bawled through out most of it, but the acting and visuals were stunning.

In movie house: "Olympus Has Fallen": 8/10. I like it more than most, for a leave your brain at the door action movie I though the action scenes were great to watch. I suspect it will have a great re-run future on cable, probably knocking-out Air Force One...finally

On disc: "Premium Rush": 8/10, Again I liked this more than most, it actually had me gasping at parts, like the visuals of him getting t-boned in an intersection. The bike handling was cool, the plot was ridiculous.

8/10 Oblivion... Great visuals, interesting story line, good traditional SF irony. (good SF always has an ironic twist)

Downside... it felt a bit rushed in places.

Iron Man Three - 5/10

Another overly-long CGI crap-fest. The only decent bits were when Ben Kingsley was on screen. Other than that, it's a long-winded snooze with boring characters indifferently acted by people I don't care much about.

Abraham Lincoln - Vampire Hunter 4/10. Caught it on HBO last night. Mildly entertaining - enough that I didn't turn it off anyway.

I expect to concur. I have a free ticket and intend to use it to witness this masterpiece myself. I hope I am not at all disappointed -- however, if the track record of Hollywood franchises is any indicator, I firmly believe that this movie will make me happier than the Second Coming.

ST into darkness 5/5. 3D caught me by surprise.

(On a 3D note...I wear glasses and using those specs over mine, what a PITA. A shallow depth of field messes with the brain as I found myself trying to view the landscapes while the camera was in tight on faces.)
