Rewatched Get Smart with the kids over the weekend. 7.5/10. The movie cracks me up every time and Anne Hathaway is not hard to look at.

I watched two new-to-me movies over the four-day Thanksgiving weekend, and re-watched one oldie that I hadn't seen in about 20 years:

On Thursday night, I checked out the 2002 version of Solaris, with George Clooney and Natascha McElhone. I thought it was pretty good, but I've never seen the original 1972 version of the movie, which is supposedly a better film. .. Solaris - 6.5/10

Case 39 was a mediocre horror flick. It was fairly entertaining, but it relied too heavily on clichés and supernatural silliness. .. Case 39 - 5/10

The 1982 remake of Cat People was about as good as I remembered it... Which is to say that it was not bad, overall. As always, Malcolm McDowell is great at playing a creepy villain, and while Nastassja Kinski couldn't act if her life depended on it, she does provide some wonderful eye candy in this movie. .. Cat People - 6/10

There was a time several years back, when I'd go on DVD buying sprees fairly often. I quit doing that when, one day, I took stock of my collection and realized that it was stacked with movies that I hadn't yet watched. Until last night, La Femme Nikita was one of those DVDs.

Years ago I had seen the American remake, Point of No Return, starring Bridget Fonda, and I remember liking it a lot. I enjoyed La Femme Nikita quite a bit as well, but now I feel like I need to re-watch Point of No Return and determine which I like best.

    La Femme Nikita - 7.5/10

Re-watched Snatch last night with my son. He thought it was a little bit confusing, (which is understandable), and that some of the heavy British accents were difficult to cut through, (which is also true). But, he definitely enjoyed it. Personally, it's my favorite Guy Ritchie movie.

    Snatch - 9/10

Watched The Bourne Legacy last night and was pleasantly surprised (7.5/10). I was expecting a cheap imitation of the Matt Damon movies but it was quite good.

i'd give it maybe a 6 or a 7, but it was definitely way way way better than the x-men origins movie. that was so terrible.

lol.I liked X-men First Class mostly. I thought the previous Wolverine movie was awful though.

    yeah First Class was great.

I was referring to that previous wolverine movie "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". The one where he fought that one absurd dude and they collapsed a nuclear cooling tower. so dumb.

I watched a little-known (I think) but star-studded comedy called "Movie 43." It's in the same vein as "Amazon Women on the Moon" and "Kentucky Fried Movie." My wife and I both both laughed till our guts and faces hurt. Effing epic hilarity.

For the record, it is often raunchy and over-the-line hilarity. If you're easily offended by your screen, do avoid this flick.
That's enough out of you, legs. Shut up and pedal.

The bits with the homeschooling the son were too much for me.
Punctuation is important. It's the difference between "I helped my uncle, Jack, off a horse" and "I helped my uncle Jack off a horse"

in honor of the release of the new Godzilla movie's trailer being released yesterday, I went back and watched Godzilla 2000. It's pretty terrible, but also at least a good return to the traditional rubber suit Godzilla movies from Toho.

I can't wait to see that. I hope it's better than the first one. My son saw it and said it was great.

    The Smurfs

spent the first half hour trying to explain to the kids
just how big the smurfs were when we were their age
    not a great film
but hank azaria hit one out of the park as gargamel
and overall was not nearly as disappointing as i expected
    6.5/10

    edit
by big i meant culturally important
they have always been three apples tall
Last edited by Wilfred Laurier; 12-21-13 at 08:21 AM. Reason: smurfs are not big but they were huge

R.I.P.D. I'd give it a 7/10. It was fun, Jeff Bridges in particular.

watched The Neverending Story for the first time last night. Even though I was born in '81, I never saw it growing up - at least that I can remember. My wife sat me down and made me watch it last night Man. The 80's were....special.
I'll give it a 6/10 because 80's and Falcor is awesome.

The guy who played Coreander, the bookseller, was a friends father. I met him a couple of times. Nice guy.

I saw "Inside Llewyn Davis" today. The Coen Bros always leave me things to puzzle over. Overall, I liked it. Maybe a 7 out of 10. The soundtrack album is so freighted with stars that I thought music would play a bigger part in the movie, but I think the story is more about the music industry than the art. Oscar Isaac was great. I'll see it again.
