    "The Proposition"
Put it on as a stream during last Sunday's basement trainer ride and was blown away. Brutal poetry is the best description I can think of. From the director of "The Road", and why they didn't tap him for "Blood Meridian" after seeing this I can't comprehend. Screenplay and soundtrack by Nick Cave.

Check it out if you like your ultraviolence served with a side of brains- 9/10

The Three Stooges never perforated Hitler's face with a machine ***, either.

"From Paris With Love" - 6/10, if that.

Plot: John Travolta shoots a lot. And there's the expected twist.

    "Goodbye Solo" - 7/10

If you'd like a solid character study pondering whether hopeful optimism trumps unconsolable misery, it's worth a look. Not overwrought as it might sound, very understated.

never read the hammett book but if the movie is this good, the book must be better than

The Cove -10/10 - Excellent film with a great balance on politics and emotion--did not dwell any further than it needed to, on the sickening violence inherent to the story.

Yes, really, I'd give it a 9. Remarkably sweet, and you really feel for Clooney's character.

    Alice in Wonderland - 2010

Took the girls out to a private showing yesterday morning and we gave it three thumbs up... they are 10 and 12 and I am 44.

The performances were excellent with my highest opinion going to Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen... these are actors that were made to play these roles.

It is filmed in 3D and this suits the story well as I am sure it was written while Lewis Carrol was under the influence of some pretty good drugs... although it relied on special effects and cgi to create Wonderland it was not a special effects piece and the performances were really first rate and the cast was well chosen.

It is still one of the greatest stories of it's genre and Burton and company treated this very well.

I'm a movie addict and see 2-4 movies a week. This past weekend was Shutter Island. 7/10. Well acted but I figured it all out half way through so that was kind of a bummer. Still a nice twist for anyone who didn't figure it out.

remains of the day 1993 with emma thompson & anthony hopkins.
if you don't like "slow" movies where the unsaid is more powerful than the
dialogue then forget this one. 9-9.5.

My wife went and saw Shutter Island after reading the book and said that it sort of spoiled the movie. Not the traditional 'oh, the book craps on the movie' argument, but it ruined any suspense and twists.

I can see that. Unless the movie changes things I already know the plot twists. Still would like to see it though.

Food Inc. 9/10 - Very enlightening. Exposes yet another area where deregulation has gone overboard.

    "Green Zone"

Matt Damon plays a US Army officer searching for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, weeks after the 2003 "shock and awe" invasion. A political war movie with tightly shot, shaky cam action sequences.

+1 on Green Zone. However, I"m going to have to give it a 7/10 for that camera work. It's just too much. Also, I thought the ending was a little too quick and tidy. But I'm a sucker for a spy flick so even if it totally sucked I'd give it a high score.

We started to watch Pirate Radio on On Demand on Friday. It was fun but I fell asleep then didn't get around to turning it back on before it expired. Dangit. Note - I fell asleep because I had a hell week, not becuase the movie was bad.
