Ayn Rand - The Fountainhead - Atlas Shrugged

I am now reading The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged (Kobo Reader versions on the Blackberry Playbook). Rand was a bit of a nut-case in a lot of respects, but, her observations of a government that invades and controls almost every aspect of life seem apropos for today's news.

I also bought a new Kindle (the third one I've owned). It will be arriving Thursday. This one is the Kindle Paperwhite w/o special offers.

Her books are no different than any of the turgid fantasy aimed at self absorbed teenage boys.

Reading her books is a right of passage. Add a little maturity, life experience and you realize her view of humanity is juvenile...unless you grew up to become a wanker. Our government doesn't invade and control, more than anything it keeps fresh water running and the streets safe. Get real.

Rand has a love-affair with self, that's for sure. FriedrichNietzsche was a huge influence on her. She seems to be a mix of hedonist, atheist, libertarian, and rebel, who objects to any authority and rules-- unless she makes them.
