there are some verry nice people in Great Falls Mt.

yesterday I posted about the poorly run motel i stayed at. I wasnt too thrilled with this town at that point. Since then I have met some verry nice people here I was at the red cross giving blood yesterday and everyone i came incontact with were some great people.

As far as the bike goes I had developed a bit of trubble with my free hub. it was making some noise like there was grit in the bearings and a rubbingh noise. I at first thought it was a wheel out of true or the breaks off center and rubbing the rim. I checked the ture and it was fine, the breaks i re adjusted and centered, then i thought it might a tire rubbing on the fender so i reset them.

I went for a long ride yesterday afternoon without the bags and the noise was loud enough to drive me nutzzz. I looked up a bike shop in the phine book and called for advice. this morning i was waiting at 9 am when they opened. I helped the guy open by moving all the display bikes out side for the guy and then we got at my bike. He loaned me the tools and a bike stand to remove the free hub take it apart and clean and lub everything he also checked it all out when i had it dissasembled and found nothing wrong so *** i was reassembling it he gave me a new set of premium bearings to put in and checked the adjustment of the cones when i was done. While i had the cassette of i put on a new freewheel protector cause the one i had was cracked and the ears were broken off and was just flooping arround. everything together was 12 dollars. It seem to be much better now, and am about to go for a 30 mile loop ride today.

early tomorrow morning I will take off for Havre it is a little over 110 miles so Ill probeley take two days to get there there is one big ole hill outside of loma.

I hung arround the bike shop for a couple hours talking about biking and touring with Brin the owner and he has ridden soem of the same route i have been on so we were engagauged in many stories.

still in Great falls.

Howdy Catfish,

Glad to see that it only took $12 to get your bike to stop making noise. I was supposed to be in San Francisco this weekend for a training workshop. Needless to say, since there is limited air travel, I am thankfully still in Houston. I'm glad that I am home because it gives me more time to get some much needed work done. I am hosting a three-hour spin-a-thon to benefit the Texas Gulf Coast Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in two weeks and I am still hustling for donations. I also have to finish a training manual that needs to be sent off to Chicago. Being home this weekend also gives me the opportunity to get out and ride with my buddies. We are training for a 111 mile ride in Tucson, AZ in November. Well, I need to get my kiddo ready for bed. He is driving me crazy for some milk. Talk to you later.

Hey Bro, (Catfish), I finally was able to find the new site. I have been trying, but must have wrote down the wrong spelling. Anyway I found you and am sure happy about that. Really enjoyed catching up on your travels and adventures. It sure sounds like your having a good time. You continue to be a great inspiration to me in alot of ways. I have added another mile to my treadmill walk. I also am looking at life alot different these days- Maybe getting older and wiser -
This has been an awful week for our country and the people - I don't even know what to say. Debby & I have postponed our trip to New York City for my birthday in October.
Dad should be in Milwaukee the first part of October. He is coming to Jacksonville around Sept 24 & spend his birthday with us - Sept 25 and then head to Milwaukee. I guess he will be picking up his new Ford Windstar that Bobby has ordered for him. He is really looking forward to that.
I'll keep in touch with you by reading this site daily.
Please stay safe and careful. Love, Bette
