    Ft benton

50 miles today to Ft Benton the oldest town in Montana LOTS OF HISTORY HERE been following the lewis and clark route for quite some time now. the first guy i met in this town is a 80 year old guy that i thought was 50 or so he owns the oldest building here in this oldest town, i wanted to camp tonight but after meeting him and his wife i decided to rent a room from him and he is insistant on driving me to the top of Loma hill in the morning Ive tried to explaine that I have allready ridden up and over the passes in the cascades and rocky's but he is having nothing to do with that so I either have to get out of here by 4 am or take the ride with this interesting old dude. I am not against getting a ride just wasnt expecting or wanting it just now,

Ive stoped at 4 places today and tried to buy a smalll U.S. flag to mount on my bike. I find this a bit weird that I can watch on tv news as these enemies of America burn U S falgs on a daily basis and i cant find one to buy to proudly display as i ride twords home. Where do these flag burning a** holes get them from?

    Hey Catfish,

If you see an American Legion or VFW on your route and still need a small flag, they may have one for you.
Good to see you're making head way out there. It must be getting chilly. It's gotten noticeable cooler here in Illinois.
This week has been really bad. We haven't been on the 'puter too much and when we are it is in the threads that talk about the current events.
I'm watching your progress with great interest (just as I did with your last big trip). Hope you make it before it gets too cold!

    Take care out there

    Hey George,
I think I figured out how to post a message. Love reding your adventure. Finally got that telephone line fixed (for good this time I think) so the computer will work right.
Stay safe out there. Kevin is still in Milwaukee. Hasn't heard anything yet. Who knows whats next. You are a rela inspiration to all. Keep up the good work. I start my spinning class on Tuesday night. I hope they don't all laugh at me and kick me out of the class. If you can ride across the country more than once with your back problems, I can take this class.
Hang in there. Call if we can do anything to help you.
    Love,
    Sue

Hey Catfish(Bro), One more thing, It is really great that Sue is starting a Spinning Class. Thanks to your inspiration - I am sure she will love it once she gets into it. I havn't done Spinning ever since my back went out on me a few years ago. But doing the treadmill is my thing now & I love it - I really clear my head while I am working up a sweat. I still have that tape that you gave me, that is my favorite - so

metimes I don't even listen to music, just "veg" out. Anyway, you are an inspiration to many people in alot of ways. Keep it up - Stay strong & Watch out for the critters out there - Bette XXOO

Getting more respect from the truck drivers because you now fly the flag is interesting! We'll keep that one in mind. Might even throw one on the old tandem now. We have lots of trucks around these parts but they all seem to give us plenty of room.

    Take care

    Hey Catfish,

This is Michelle, (Lori's W.'s daughter) I just wanted to say hi, and tell you how neat I think your trip is. I read what you post on the forum and it sounds like your having quite an adventure! I hope all is well on the road, how is the weather lately? Here in Wisconsin it's turning very cold it seems like summer was just a dream I'm already starting to forget. I'm sure by now you've heard a ton about the recent terrorist attack It's so very sad, it also shows however what a fighting spirit America has. It's encouraging to see America's sense of Patriotism egnighted, how has what's happened affected your ride, and the people you've met? Love to hear from ya

    Good luck, and take care.

    Michelle

    Sea shell:
I like the screen name youve picked! thanks for the post it is so amazing to me how much insperation i get when i log on and find some kind words directed my way. These times are a little tuff out here now I am in a part of montana that is flat and no trees but lots of wheet feilds for as far as you can see I havent seen any other bikers in two weeks to share times with so the words i get here are real special. I have not heard much from your mom in a long time, is she doing ok?.

Yes this is a terrible thing that has happened but the good psrt is seeing people from all over and all walks of life pulling topgether for a common cause. As far as how its effected my trip , of course the pain and anger is felt out here on the road here. It took about three days to find a flag to mount on my bike but since mounting it i sewem to be getting lots of respect from the truckers that used to try to run me off the road. The people i meet as they see the flag become instantly friendly.
