Day 48 (i think) some thoughts

hi:
some rambling thoughts....yesterday made some good serious progress the day was fine, sunny, warm the night befor didnt get cold at all infact it stayed in the 50,s I went past a bank sign that said 82 during the afternoon. so it actually got hot for a change it was good to ride wiothout leg warmers and a jacket .

Some of the trees have now changed to a brilliant collor of golden yellow and are spectactular as the warm sun shines through them. I picked up a nice tail wind and was cruising in the big ring again going 15-17-and even 20 mph at a rpm of about 82

This fine day got me to thinking which you can do a lot of riding many miles daily. about being lucky and thankfull for many things. Yes the weather has not been so nice latley and the wind exhusted me and made for some long days. the past week. the routeen of challenges, obsticals, and overcomming impossibilities and making things possible and the rewards of overcomming these obsticals without the reward is sometimes a humbling experiance. The saving thought on these days is that when things get bad the only they can go is better :)

Yesterday was one of those days that just doesntr get any better just a beautifull fall day. got into the rythem of legs heart lungs working together shifting to a higher gear and feeling powerfull strong, steady.

I was thinking about being lucky to be out here doing this, when so many others with less or greater physical problems then I have allready given up all together or never really try. I of course sometimes push myself too hard and go over the edge but living on the edge is a way of life fo me. its walking the fine line of doing enough and not doing too much that keeps me going.

I am lucky also that I have a Dr that refuses to let me sit idle and or feel sorry for myself, he encourages physical activity as a form of treatment and preventive medicine. I remember him saying after he reconstructed my spine, "Ive done my part, now it is up to you" He gave me the guidelines and restrictions to live withen. and let me go out to explore and find my limets.

I am lucky to be able to fly this American flag on my bicycle and come and go as i please, and enjoy my freedom.Lucly to have friends and family from all walks of life that either understand or dont understand but still let me go explore and see whats out there. and lucky to have people like all of you that come by and read these words i jot down during my ramblings and send some words of your own back to me. Yes all in all it is a fine day to be alive and feeling fine!!

I almost forgot to mention..... I STINK!!! yea thats right Stink with a capitol S yesterday i passed some apple trees and decided to stop and get a few. I layed the bike down and climbed over a fence and walked through some brush then shinneied up the tree and snaged a coupla ripe ones.

On the way back to the fence i came face to face with a skunk he looked at me and then turned arround and scratched the dirt with his frount feet and lifted its tail and WOOOSH I got the full monty, eeeuuuu
I dont know what he was so mad about but he looked at me again and waddled off

I got riding again and after an hour or so i figured I must be aired out by now. Iwas getting hot and I had a taste for a chocolet/banana malt. when i spotted a dairy queen i stoped and got in a long line. soon everyone made faces and moved aside the lady at the window said "geeeze you smell like a skunk!! and made that malt in record time to get me out of there. guess Ill have to toss out these bike shorts and jersey and get a hot shower tonight.

Got about 85 miles t go today to get to fargo need to get there to catch this train and hop accross minisota I allready bought the ticket cause they only have one bike box left( they only take bikes in boxes) so to hold the box i paid in advance and been riding like crazy to make it in time the good thing is the train pulls out at 2 am so If needed ill ride late to make it i got extra time
ok see ya

Catfish,
We are lucky to have you out there doing it and posting here to let us share it with you. I love reading your accounts. I really appreciate your honoring my request to number the posts. Now my slow wit can keep things in order without having to get out a map!

Don't throw your clothes away. Try soaking them in tomato juice. I am pretty sure that is supposed to take th smell out.
Regards,
Raymond
