day 53

made it to Ladysmith Wi today man what a diffrance in the weather from yesterday. Its like mid november weather grey cold damp drizzley ect. The one good thing today was a slight tail wind The first few days back in Wi i was in dairy country and that sweet smell oof the dairy farms was refreshing, now the terraine has changed a bit as i enter the Great north woods surrounded by hardwood forests and pine trees .

The colors are still spactacular but with out the sun shine they take on a bit of a differant look.

I think it is too early to stop but its too cold to camp out with this light weight gear i have along and it is a good 40 more miles to the next place to find a motel. so ILL stop here for the night its going on 2 pm and to go another 40 miles is chancy in this weather It looks like it could begin to thundershower anytime now.

I have been fortunate today It is cold but cycling today generated enough heat to keep warm unless I stoped for any length of time. It never really got to raining either just drizzling off and on.

Stoped in a cafe to get a bowl of HOT chillie for lunch I got takin to a ole dude and he told me of his bicycling adventures he took 60 years ago wow what amazing stories he told. and it turned out that we had some of the same feelings about life onthe road even with the passage of time.

It is going to be cold enough to snow these next 2 or 3 nights I will definiatly be staying inside someplace!!
see ya / in Ladysmith

Howdy Catfish,

I'm so glad that the last couple of days have been healing to your spirit. How much further do you plan to ride? How many days do you think that it will take you?

I got a postcard in the mail today that WSSC in Miami is going to be May 2-5. They will start registration on Nov. 1st on the web site. I am so excited about it! Even though it is eight months away, I'm going to try to get as many of my fellow instructors to go with me as possible. Maybe if you are there, we can re-meet each other and have a face to put with the name.

Stay warm. From living in northern Illinois for thirteen years, I know exactly what kind of dreary, drizzley weather you are talking about. But, it puts one in the mood for hot cider, a good bowl of soup or chili - like you mentioned, and warm corn bread. And we cannot forget those caramel apples. I hope that I'm not making you too hungery.

I hope that you and Cheeze have a good visit, I'm off to burn another CD for class.

Elizabeth

Hey Bro(Catfish)
Been catching up reading of your adventures. Sounds as though you've had some challenges along the way. Wow, getting sprayed by a skunk! I remember being up north in Hayward I think it was, and our dog, Snoopy or Buttons got sprayed by a skunk. We bathed her in Tomatoe Juice. Do you remember that?
Those were the days, hey. Glad you're in WI enjoying the colors and fall weather. Hope it stays sunny for you. Enjoy the remainder of your trip, you are doing great, anyone that has gone through the back surgery that you went thru and can ride cross country is truly an amazing human being.!!!! I am so proud of you and greatly inspired by all you do. Stay strong, Stay Safe and have fun. (Any one that meets you along the road is truly lucky to have crossed your path) Take Care, Love, BetteXXOO

Hey George,
You sound good. It's so exciting to read of your adventures I can't wait to see you again. I'm surviving the spinning class. 3 weeks now. I'm getting a little better. Haven't falllen off the bike yet. HAVEN 't missed a class either.. Still can't keep up with those who are in shape. But they haven't thrown me out. someday, I will be able to keepup. Keep on riding. You are remarkable. Have a great week. See you soon.
Love,
Sue

Sue:
are you using a heart rate momitor in SPIN class? If not you should be. thats how you keep up its not about the other people but keepiong pace with yourself. there is so much about spinning that many instructors dont have a clue about and therefor cannot teach you I hope you have a good knowledgeable instructor, one that encourages you to push hard on hard days and easy on easy days. I have a case of heart rate monitors inmy hallway closit go over and get one if you want. take all three parts the watch part the chest transmitter and the elastic strap to hold it on.
in the meantime determine your resting heart rate so we can work up some meaningfull numbers for you that you should be working at. It simply doesnt do you any good to be working too hard all the time or too easy. take your pulse every morning for a bout 4 or 5 days first thing when you wakeup befor you get up or move arround too much after 4-5 days average it out then we plug it into a formula and get some zones you shopuld work at. there is a lot more aboyt this subject but thats for when i see you to explaine it so foir now get your true resting heart rate established, if you contimue to Spin through the winter you may see a dramitic improvement in your rhr
