BickerBikes: Help get urban youth on bikes
Help get more kids out on bikes! Chicago bicycling activist Alex Wilson will be running his fourth summer of workshops on bike-fixing and urban riding for teenagers in Humboldt Park and other neighborhoods. The program is sponsored by a 40-year-old community development corporation, Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation (get it? BickerBikes?) and has served 100 local youth so far. This year the program is seeking financial support from cyclists and other supporters around Chicago (and the world). Read about the BickerBikes program, and see pictures of the kids and a great audio slideshow, on the LISC/Chicago New Communities Program web site. The non-profit New Communities Program put up the seed money that got BickerBikes started.
Bickerdike hopes to raise $5,000 from grassroots donations to support a 2007 budget of $39,000. You can donate any amount by check or credit card. Read the story for details.
