Active on-line registration

Event leaders: Does anyone have experience with using Active.com for on-line registration? I've noticed that many triathlons use them but not many cycle rides. Is there a reason for this?
Thanks!

I posted this a few days ago, hope it helps:

I had some bad luck registering for the Pikes Peak Marathon this past March 1. The moment Active.com opened registration, their site crashed. Then after repeated attempts at signing up for the race, their site kicked me off AFTER my credit card info was input and before I could complete the deal. I spent 3 hours that day fighting with that website. The entire process was canceled that day even though after I took a vacation day for registration.

About two weeks later Active.com had a “do over”. The site kicked me off again a handful of times, but I was able to register. That only took me 45 minutes; 30 min to get to my account and 15 min to register while being kicked off a few times. At least I'm in the race now.

RE: Active.com registration

I've used active.com to register for several events (cycling only). In my experience it works great- except for those few events where openings fill up within just a few hours of registration opening. Active.com simply cannot handle this kind of traffic and who gets to finish their registration before being kicked out is luck of the draw more-or-less. For events like this (I'm thinking of the Horribly Hilly Hundred in WI) Active should have a pre-registration- then chose names in a lottery from that pool.

Used Active.com for a ride registration and got spammed afterwords. I hate that.

We use active.com as an option for our riders. We also allow mail-in registration with payment by check or money order. Active's fees are high - so many riders feel resentful being forced to go that route.

Sometimes active is unreliable; they have computer glitches; but all -in-all it's a good thing.

Thanks for all of the replies. I signed up the Tour de Crossroads on Active.com I'll report back after the event (in late September) how things went.
