The Ride for Red 4,500 mile trek across the US
Jeff Greene, a friend of mine, just departed the Navy after a highly successful tour and has embarked on a journey to make a difference. He is about halfway through a 4,500 mile trek across the United States and then up the eastern coast to benefit 2 chapters of the Red Cross.
Jeff decided that before he gets married, gets a job, and settles down he is going to do something for others. He is doing something that most of us wouldn’t think of doing or don’t have the time/energy to do. In March, he started in Oceanside, CA; he recently passed through Savannah, GA; and he will complete his journey in Springville, NY. He estimated 3 months for the journey.
His goal was to get $10,000 donated to the 2 Red Cross chapters.
As of 21APR08, he has gathered just over $10,600, almost equally distributed between the 2 chapters. However, he is only just over half way through his journey. Therefore, I have decided to run a small campaign to DOUBLE his initial goal. My intent is to raise an additional $10,000 so that each chapter can benefit from a total of $10,000. I believe that since he made his goal by the halfway point, his sights were a little too low.
So, having read all the above, I ask that you do a few more things:
1. (5 minutes) Check out Jeff’s website https://www.rideforred.com/. Specifically, check out the Trip Pictures (https://www.rideforred.com/Trip%20Pictures.htm). Jeff has added some great commentary to his ride along with these pictures.
2. (2 minutes) Look at his donations page(s) - https://www.rideforred.com/donor_lists_link.htm. You will immediately notice something. (1) Jeff has commented on almost every entry because most of them are his friends. This is quite amazing, because with just his friends, Jeff has collected over $10,000! It is also a good indication of the kind of guy he is, these people really like him. Just think of what we can do by adding to his total over the next half of his journey…
3. (3 minutes) Give a donation. I’m not asking you to give $10,000 or $5000, or $1000 or even $10, just give something. Give the change in your couch or the change in your dryer (or both). Skip your iced frappamochachino with whip cream and drop $15 (the going rate for one here in DC I think) or don’t get that bowtie at Dunkin Donuts and give $5…it’s a good cause, you’ll feel good about it, and your waist will thank you. Use this to teach your kids about giving (or your dog if you don’t have kids). Given Jeff’s 4,500 miles, it’s a small thing to ask.
So, there it is. If you’re this far down, you’ve probably spent about 15 minutes total here (including 5 minutes to read my email) and Jeff is further along to his $20,000 goal (that he doesn’t know exists). I thank you for whatever you do.
Thanks for your time and Ride On!

Awsome route...very good thought to use acadamy buddies and alumni as waypoints along the journey. You've got my support as well. Even though the trek is almost over....Godd luck!!!
