It's official....LSC Philly

Well, after talking about it last year and again over the last few weeks my wife finally said just do it. We registered me last night for the 100 mile ride so now there is no turning back. Time to train and prepare. Still working on my donation page and lining up as many emails as I can for my first request for donations.

Further, we are planning to make it a long weekend/short vacation with our girls (7 and 3) to see some of the sites in the Philly area.

What I would like to know from someone in the area or someone who has done the ride in the past if they can recommend a family friendly hotel in the area of the ride start. My wife looked on-line but didn't really see anything in the immediate area.

Maybe I'll see some of you there.

Congrats on committing to the liveStrong challenge. The host hotel for the event is the Doubletree plymouth meeting. I stayed there the past 2 years. Very nice and only a few miles from the start.

Thanks Jay...

It does appear to be a very nice hotel but I was hoping to find something a bit less pricey considering our stay may be a bit longer with our daughters. I did google plymouth meeting hotels and they are actually cheaper than most in the area but not quite the price range I was hoping for. I may look at staying a bit farther away for a couple nights then stay there the Sat. night before the ride. That may be an option.

Any other year I wouldn't be quite so concerned, but where I work we've had to take a small pay cut, an increase in our part of medical insurance and we have a shut down week coming up in April. Hopefully that will be the only one.

I'm accepting any info I can get. We don't want to wait till the last minute.

Thanks again Jay

You're welcome.

Livestrong usually gets the rooms discounted, group rate. They should be posting hotels on their site march 17th. https://www.livestrongchallenge.org

Congrats on deciding to do the ride and taking on the 100mi route at that! Last year we tried to meet up before the ride that morning and I think we should all try to do the same this year... try and get a group photo or something before rolling out.

LSC group rates for Philly: https://www.livestrongchallenge.org/s...42F/Hotels.htm

Areas near the LSC start to google for hotels just in case: Plymouth Meeting, Norristown, Blue Bell

Meeting up sounds like a good idea. As of right now, I'm the only rider I know from this area heading over there. It would be nice to have someone to roll out with.....even if I can only hang for a few miles. I'm sure I'll make some aquaintances along the way. Surely there will be someone I can keep up with....lol.

If you're still looking for a place, the Marriott in Montgomeryville / North Wales might be an option for you. It is on Rt. 202, so getting to the start of the ride is very easy: just make a left out of the parking lot, and go a few miles to the intersection with Morris Rd, and the college is on the left. The hotel is directly across the street from the Montgomery Mall and near several movie theaters, so there will be a way for the family to kill time on rainy days. Also, you're a half hour from Peace Valley Park, which has walking / riding paths, boating, etc. The down side? Unless you have some kind of Marriott discount or rewards program, it looks like it will be pricier than the group rates at the other hotels.
