Pelotonia cancer research ride in Columbus, Ohio

Hi, and thanks for reading my post. I'd appreciate any sponsorships you guys and girls would be willing to donate for this. If you're interested in participating, and are in the Columbus, Ohio area, there's plenty of room left, and there are already nearly 2,000 riders signed up. It looks to be a great time.

I've decided to participate in a great experience. It will involve cycling for a great cause, and I've emailed you because I need your help.

Pelotonia is a grass roots bike tour with one goal: to end cancer. It is a cycling experience that will take place August 28th-30th. The ride will span two days and will cover as many as 180 miles. I am writing to ask you to help me reach my fundraising goal. Large or small, every donation makes a difference. Thanks to NetJets' transformational gift, 100% of every donation will fund essential research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

We all know someone who has been affected by cancer. By supporting Pelotonia and me, you will help improve lives through innovations in research with the ultimate goal of winning the war against cancer. I would love to have your support in this inaugural year. This truly is a unique opportunity to be a part of something special.

When you follow the link below, you will find my personal rider profile and a simple and secure way to make any size donation you wish.

Think of this as a donation not to me, or Pelotonia, but directly to The James. Please consider supporting my effort and this great cause. Here is the link to my rider profile: http://www.pelotonia.org/ride/riders...on%20Yankowski

    Thanks again!

    Hey Jason,

I'll be there that day as well. I'll be riding my first century that day. I can't think of a better cause to mark this occasion.

    Good Luck,

I"m certainly hoping so, too. I thought about that, wonder what happens if it's pouring rain that day...

If it rains we'll ride. I guess we might need a rain jacket. Hopefully we'll have nice weather.

I made a donation to a friends ride. Also, I am going to be one the event photographers.

Nice to meet you Lust. This will be my first century as well. My training partner and I have neither one done a century and felt this was the perfect one to break that.

Gitarzan. It sounds like you've gotten a great gig for this event. I won't be hard to miss out there.

    I'm praying for beautiful weather!

so how did everyone do? I did the 50 in 2 hours, 37 minutes. Not fast, I know, but I was happy with it.

Jason that's a really good 50 mile time. It was really cool that they shutdown all of downtown for us. My bike partner and I finished the 100 in 6 hours 22 minutes of ride time; with a 17 MPH average. After we left you guys at the 50 miles it really turned hilly and that's where the climbing began. A couple of the descents were in the 40+ MPH. There were quite a few people who got off their bikes and walked them up but, we didn't. My bike partner is one of the toughest women I know and put to shame some guys who had blown around us earlier.

Overall it was a great experience and I'm ready for next year. There is still a good amount of biking to do this year.

I'm ready for next year, as well. Despite the few minor issues, I'd do it again.

I was saddened to have to miss this event. We moved to Boston from Columbus in late July. I signed up to be a virtual rider, so i at least donated my $10. I also rode 10 miles yesterday, as the weather here saturday was not conducive to riding with the remnants of tropical storm Danny in the area. (the rain wasn't as bad as the wind). Next year, I'm thinking of using pelotonia as an excuse to fly back and visit friends.

You missed a great time. Seeing the sheer number of people, not only riders, but the people that were out of their houses, both in the city, and small towns, but even the rural roads, cheering on the riders was nothing short of amazing. Of course, having Columbus police, and State Troopers at most every intersection, stopping traffic was kinda neat, too. Even though charity rides seem to be looked down upon here at BF, I thought it was a well executed event, and hope you can make it next year.
