A college students trek across the United States - Journey of Hope
I'm relatively new to biking (just bought my first road bike) and i'm already training/fundraising for an event through my fraternity called The Journey of Hope. The journey of hope is a 4,000 mile, 64 day bicycle ride from San Fransisco to Washington D.C. to raise money and Awareness for people with disabilities. Riding an average of 80 miles each morning and spending our afternoons hosting "friendship visits" to those people that we are helping. Unlike most rides, we aren't just riding and raising money each day we interact with people who have disabilities by putting on dances, playing wheelchair basketball, hosting suppers, and putting on a puppet show called "New kids on the block" some specifics that i read other people put:
1.) there are 30 riders, and 10 crew members who follow along in a chase vehicle. This is because the afternoon activities are very important and if we have a serious break down we still need to be able to get there on time
2.) I'm currently riding a Scott Speedster S40 w/ road pearl izumi shoes and pedals
For me, this is huge. Along with my 19 credit hours of school, i spent last semester working 30hrs a week to afford a bike that would be capable of making the trip. But now i've come to the hardest part, fundraising. In order to participate, i have to raise a min. of $5,000 dollars and this seems nearly impossible. I'm an Eagle Scout, Fund-raising chair for 2 different organizations on campus, and yet i have never in my entire life tried to raise nearly this amount of money.
Any little donation would be awesome, you can even text your donation in by texting "Push147" to 50555 then you'll get a confirmation email and just reply with a "yes"
or you can go to my site: https://secure.pushamerica.org/tylerschaller and in the upper right hand corner click sponsor tyler.
this cause is something that is really important to me, and truly any donation would be awesome. Also anything above 25$ is tax-deductible.
Attached is a picture of the route i'll be taking, and if you have any helpful suggestions those would be excellent as well, i don't post on the forums very often but i love reading all the entries.
thanks again!
