Thumbs up 100 mile unicycle ride for American Cancer Society

Hello all,

On Sunday, July 11th, I will be embarking on my first (and maybe only ever) solo 100 mile unicycle ride, to help benefit the American Cancer Society, and also as a personal challenge. I hope you will join me in making a donation for this very worthy cause.
Please click here.

Twins Bike shop in Lomita, CA will be sponsoring my ride, which will start at the bike shop at approximately 5:30am, and be completed sometime between 5-7pm!I’ll be riding my 36″ touring unicycle, and this epic ride will take me to Huntington pier, then doubling back, and continuing onto the start of the bike path at Torrance beach. From there I will ride the entire length of the bike path to Will Rogers state beach, then double back to Torrance beach, and finally back to my home in Lomita. 102 miles total!

Since I have no gears and can never coast, I will be pedaling continuously for about 11 hours, and pedaling a staggering 56,000 wheel revolutions! Everyone is welcome to ride along (on your bike most likely!) for part of the ride, or the whole distance.

Hope to see you somewhere along the way!

I'm going to give it my best! I belong to a uni-forum with 27,150 members, and there's a thread "Who has completed a 100 mile uni ride in one day?" If I am successful, I will add my name to the list, becoming the 58th, and oldest person to have completed a uni-century! (that's only .0019% of the total members)

I wish I could help, being unemployed has made money really tight for me. But I wish you the best of luck. That's an incredible feat you're attempting.

Hey no problem Gene, I know what it's like out there these days! I'm a piano tuner since 1999, and the last 2 years it's slowed to a trickle.

I met with a reporter at the beach yesterday who had seen my story in the paper, and wanted to do a short segment on my upcoming 100 mile uni ride on 7/11/10. It aired last night, 7/6/10, on CBS 2 News at 6:28pm.

I only just found out that it actually aired, and luckily I had programmed my vcr to tape it in case it was on while I was out riding! I only found it when I scanned through 2 hours of what I recorded, but had missed it the first time, lol! It's short, but hey, it's something!

Riding his 3-wheeled recumbent cycle, a guy named Michael Castro shot a quick clip of me while I was training last week for my 100 mile uni-century coming up on 7/11/10. He was one of many cyclists who were taking random pics and video along the way.

He contacted me through my website and sent me the footage. I didn't meet him since he passed me by pretty fast! Apparently, recumbents can go pretty fast, having gears and are very aerodynamic. A real nice guy.
