Tour de Cure general questions and answers
So, I am new back to cycling, and have some general questions that I am sure the more experienced riders here can answer, and maybe there are other questions I haven't thought of yet that someone else wants to ask.
1. Right now, I am busy with many different things, and if one more person calls me wanting a piece of me, I may just explode. But I would like to ride in the Tour, how aggressive are the ADA personnel once you have signed up? Do they call daily with fundraising questions, weekly, or just leave you alone?
2. As the route for the ride I am looking at is currently not posted, how aggressive (hilly) are the routes typically?
3. Is it better to join a team, or not?
I'm sure I have more questions, but this are the couple on my mind now, and I need to make up my mind if I'm going to do this or not before it's too late. Thanks for any help.

TDC managers at least around here are very nice. Just an occasional email with fund raising tips. They even gave us a dinner party.
Routes are usually increasingly hard. They tend to have a 20 -25 mile jelly bean ride, then a longer about 50 mile ride and a more challenging 100 miler.
Teams are usually just some people who ride together rather than a peloton. Some teams actually provide gifts and parties, depending on the team and it's sponsors.
If you are diabetic you can be on RED RIDERS with a special free jersey. You may also join Team Red, also diabetics.

I just signed up for my first Tour de Cure(TdC), Hampton Roads VA, and I've received only a few emails, some of which are informing me that I received a donation and welcoming me to Team Red. So far, the ADA and the TdC haven't been too aggressive in contacting me and fundraising. Of course, I only registered a few days ago--took advantage of the $15 registration fee if done by 12/31/12(normally, it's a $25 registration fee).

Just had a question, and this would also apply to any organized ride. The event this year will be my first TDC and first organized event. Are you in your cycling gear when you show up and check-in, or are you in street clothes and then change into your gear? It'll be a good 20 or 30 minute drive before I arrive at the check-in station for the TDC:Hampton Roads VA.

To the OP, do it and you will have a great time, especially if you sign up as a Red Rider (assuming you have diabetes).

Did you wear your cycling gear at registration or change into it after you got to the start site?

I like to arrive early. Dressed to ride. Unload the bike, air the tires.

It is a Fun ride for sure. Finished 5 ( TDC'S, 1 in Houston ) of them.
One more left and I will have completed 500 miles on The Speedway 500 Mile Race Track.
I grew up there and always wanted to ride a bike on the track.
