Day 25: Waterfalls and reacquaintances

I decided to take things a little easier today - given that the next two days will feature three mountain passes each. I awoke not feeling the best this morning. Seems I ate a little too much from the Ouse Supermarket last night - or was it the water here? I don't know. I started to feel a little better on the first climb out of town. Fortunately it was long enough to work up a bit of a sweat if I didn't take my jacket off.

I paused in the town of Ellendale, bought some bottled water and knocked back one of those vile tasting sports drinks. Now my stomach somehow felt better. There were a few little ups and downs along the next few km to Westerway. For some reason I decided to pause here (8km or so from the finish of the ride) and apply sunscreen. Perhaps it was a good decision in hindsight.

The ride finished at Mt Field National Park, after I paused along the way to buy Raspberries at a fruit stall (I did say they were fair game). I discovered that my companions from Rosebery were camping here the night. In a way I was glad because in a crowded campsite one cannot always be sure which campers are going to make a noise later in the night.

Later that afternoon I took a 2 hour walk through some great waterfalls. Lady Barron and Russell Falls are the better known ones, but I found Horseshoe Falls to be more interesting. Perhaps that's just a personal thing. Perhaps it's just another personal thing that I put my map through the washing machine that night. Not a major problem - as I've bought better maps since I've been down here. However, cycling clothes covered in lint is not a good look.

The River Derwent, south of Ouse. It will have a much shorter trip back to Hobart than I will.

Not sure what this building is, apart from the fact it was at Ellendale.

This *may* have been Lady Barron Falls, but I'm not sure now.

Note to self for future reference: Don't rush and blur beautiful shots - even if there are a couple of tourists around. Oh yeah, this is Horseshoe Falls.

Russell Falls, perhaps the best-known waterfall in Tasmania.

A lot of wildlife here - even if this platypus was a little camera-shy.
