$400 is off the charts, fantasy land. The Royale was towards the lower end of the Fuji line. I've sold a few of them, fully refurbished, ready to ride, new tires/tubes/brake pads, cables, housings, bar tape, chain, rebuilt bottom bracket, headset and wheel hubs for $185.
LA is certainly a better market than here, but not that much better. Fuji catalogs are all on line, this one is a little older than described which would make it less desirable (bikes tended to improve year to year during this era).
A buyer is going to need to fully service the bike, doing it themselves, a $75 expense (depending on tire choice, tires can cost $100 for a pair alone, or even more), paying a shop to do it, $250, plus tires.

Agree with Thrifty Bill - $400 for a Fuji Royale (no refurbishment) is way too much - even for LA. It would sell fully refurbed for about $200 in Denver.

Still learning
I just paid $80 for a 1979. Needs new consumables + overhaul. Great paint condition.

just really fond of it I guess, but I actually got a hit today on Craigslist for it be leave it or not. I'll set the price at 200. Gotta remind myself not to fall in love with the inventory.

$400 is crazy high for that bike, anywhere. Especially in that condition (needing an overhaul.) I love old Fujis but there's no way I'd pay more than $100 for that bike here no matter how badly I wanted it. Your market may be better, but not 4x better.

I have sold a couple of these...............one complete and refurbed on Chicago CL for $250, purchased for $65. The other was parted out to ebay.........48cm frame for $125 and the Fuji branded group for $125. Purchased for $40 in rough shape.

Old Fuji's are definitely nice. That one looks absolutely huge! It must be a 25" or larger frame. Make damn sure you can even get up on that thing before parting with any money. $400 would only be fair if it's fully refurbished, new grease & bearings, chain, tires, cables. As - is I wouldn't pay over $175. I wouldn't want it anyhow. Who's gonna ride that thing? Wilt Chamberlain?

I wouldn't go near that for more than $130, and it would fit me. Itll take a good bit of work to get into solid condition and I cant see it being worth more than $200 to me in rehabbed condition.
ETA- I think that's an '81.

Yeah, I chuckle when I read comments about big bikes , I've never had trouble moving 62-65cm bikes. I actually sold a Trek 311 , 63cm frame, last year and the guy commented on how he had trouble finding a big bike.

Absolutely- I read all the time that a big frame will sit and that it can't be priced too high because the market is small.
Well yeah there is truth that the market is small.
But atat he same time, inventory is small, so it could be easily argued that prices can be high since there isn't much else to compete with.
Chicken or the egg sortta thing going on.
Is the price low because the demand is low or is the price high because the inventory is low?
I have found that prices aren't low for large bikes around me(within a few states, not just local) and that inventory still turns over.
It's obvIously very different elsewhere though since others have had large bikes sit and not sell.

Awesome thread, I am 6 feet tall and enjoy riding high on a big frame, as long as it dosent split me down the center.
