Nishiki serial number
I have a Nishiki bike from the early 70's I believe. I have researched serial number but am still not sure what it means. The serial number is KS237507 and has a "W" under the number. I know the K is USA pre 1985 and the S is the era pre 1975 but what do all the other numbers mean? I would like to know more about this bike, age, model, etc. but can't seem to find what I am looking for.

you are correct about the year dating. Your bicycle frame is from 1973 or 1974, the exact year is difficult to determine. The other numbers in the serial number are just a sequential number assigned to each successive bike.
I think your bike has been repainted, no decals are obvious. If the components on the bike are original and the original chromed fork, then I would say that it is an Olympic model. The Olympic model during this period did not have the colour yellow in its line.

I'm pretty sure it is an Olympic also based on the chrome fork and rear claw hanger. Most of the other models would have either forged dropouts or a plain fork. If you check you check through the Nishiki Data Base here it includes nice examples of nearly every classic Nishiki made.
