Kestral 4000? I want it.
Kestrel 4000 classic carbon fiber 58 cm frame trade
I emailed him as soon as I saw it- what say you all? am I crazy to think that $500 is a steal? is this not one of the first, if not the first, monocoque carbon frames ever? I mean, 1988!

I'd pay $500 for the complete bike before I'd pay $300 for the frameset. $500 is probably high for most markets...San Jose, maybe not.

I think it's a fair price. I can't tell what the wheels are. That influences the price. These earliest monocoque carbon frames are indeed wild and interesting but don't command big money. Some had issues with failure. Carbon has improved a LOT in the past 25 years as manufacturers have learned many lessons.

Be careful for cracks in the frame. Those frames went for BIG money back in the days, but now, only worth one or two hundred. A good price for the bike would be around 350.00. There was one several months ago on Monterey craigslist with delta brakes and the rest of the c record group for about 200.00 . Now that one, I would have liked to have. by the way, they don't ride very good and they are pretty heavy. Still cool looking after all those years however.

I had one in the '90s, I enjoyed riding it. Mine had the later EMS carbon fork and 130mm rear spacing. I am impressed by the timeless design, that frame still looks modern after 3 decades.

I just sold one to a friend for 200. Careful with the internal routing as it can be a nightmare if there's any issues with it. They run a liner and the cable stops are part of the frame. Atleast the 4000 I had was.
