opinions on this armstrong?

Vintage Ladies 3spd. 1962 Armstrong

anyone have experience with armstrong? I think this must be the first one I have ever come across and my wife has been complaining that her "free spirit" sort of sucks (and yes it does).

These are lower end. I don't know that it would be much better than the Free Spirit. Maybe a little better.

hah. yeah, my wife has a problem that her expectations for a $100 bike are unrealistic (she isn;t even paying but says: oh, its too much money). what I really should do is buy her a decent $300 bike and tell her that it was only $80. oh, when do the lies end???

Myself, it compares favorably to a Free Spirit. First it has the indestructible Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub. Fenders and chain guard look pretty decent.

Clean it up, add tires, a better saddle and put a basket on the front and you are good to go. Go with cash in hand, can probably get for less.

Yeah, I started out with a 60's 3-speed for mine at something like $150. After a full overhaul, 2 different Brooks saddles, a wheel rebuild with new spokes and alloy rims, fancy tires with reflective strips and recently a bottle generator and lights, she still never rides it... Sigh.

Bikes: No-name LH drive track. Also ride an Exxon Graftek, a Masi, a Trek R200 or a RR Boneshaker for fun!

Welcome to my world. The CF Giant TCR I custom built for her - she never rides. The Pacific Cycle-made Schwinn the neighbor gave her is her bike of choice. And she won't give me the Giant.

Good plan, and they don't end.
Keeping your collection offsite really helps.

The Giant was a symbol, think of an engagement ring. Almost useless later, you would be offended at what a jewelry store would offer but no parting with it.
Thankfully avoided that. Had a ti wedding band machined too.
