97 Rockhopper Comp A1 FS value

I believe this is a 1997 Rockhopper Comp A1 FS. I'm interested in turning it into a commuter with rigid forks and 1.5 tires. What is this thing worth in fair condition. It's a California bike but it looks to be stored outside.
How hard is it to find a rigid fork for this bike? Is it worth the cost or am I better off just buying a performance hybrid for 400-500?

I wish I was finding used bikes going for that cheap. Most used bikes in my area are going for nearly the same price as a new bike. What are some good used bikes to be looking into? I've been looking at Escapes, Sirrus, and Fx but owners are asking too much. I'm looking for something with the 700 series tires between 32-40mm wide and a rigid fork. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Can you recommend some older Trek, Specialized, Giant models that would have the 700c 32-40 mm tires? I'm looking for something that is comparable to the Giant Escape, Specialized Sirrus, Trek FX, etc. If I can get one decent for $200-300 I would probably bite. But, I've found the 2016 SE Monterey 1.0 which has decent specs which I can get for right around 400. I don't really want to spend $400 if I can get an older model that is similar for cheaper.

I sold a Rockhopper Comp 2 years ago for I believe $180. It was in very good condition.
